People want to snark and bitch about the free lunch provided in public schools.  Fine.  Send your kid to school with a homemade lunch....paid for with your food stamps.

lol

I think the issue was that the approved-menu items really did not meet the caloric requirements of elementary school children.

i agree. if parents don't give a shit about their kids getting fat, then someone should. if you don't like it, pack the shit food yourself.

And if enough people started to do this then the lunches might improve.

True, they don't.  They do have to be within certain monetary guidelines, though.

Do you accept *free lunch*?

We have before when we needed it otherwise there would have been no lunch. We almost always fall below the guideline.

I never understood the issue over public school lunches. If you don't like them, don't let your kids eat them.

They have tons of lunch boxes out right now, cute tupperware, and plenty of drink containers. No one is forcing your kid to get hot lunch. I am going to put $20 on DD's lunch account for emergencies just in case, but I don't intend for her to use it.

Caloric requirement?  Feed them peanut butter with a few carrot sticks.  Who cares if they eat what they're given?  Let em go hungry.  They will eat whatever they are given if they are hungry enough.
