'Obama Phone' Fraud Exposed: Reporter Gets 3 Free Phones!

Greta Van Susteren took an up-close look at the rampant fraud and abuse reportedly going on within the Obama administration's program to give out free cell phones to people who can't afford them.

The devices issued through the Lifeline program have often been referred to as "Obama phones" and critics have questioned whether the program is a good way to spend taxpayers' money.

Jillian Kay Melchior of the National Review has shed some light on the program after she says she received not one, not two, but three free cell phones through the program, despite clearly being unable to qualify.

She said she noticed that vendors are actively trying to sell "free phones" at locations where low-income residents can sign up for food stamps. Even though she said she was not on welfare, she was still able to sign up for a free phone eight times, and subsequently received three phones.

Melchior says FCC rules stipulate that you can only get one free phone per household, but the vendors are not following that rule.

"[The vendors said] don't worry, it's OK, you can have one phone from every single vendor participating in the program and it turns out that's just not true," she said, pointing out that every person who uses a cell phone can look at their monthly bill and see a small "universal service" tax that goes to support the government's "free phone" effort.

It's funny to me that y'all keep calling them "Obama phones".  Lifeline has been providing services since 1985 and started the prepaid cell phone program in 2005.

Obama did that.   Since he added an additional 25 million people to food stamps, I would imagine he has added at least that many to the obamaphone  program.

Why is it okay to call people tea baggers, since people claim they originally used the term, but it isn't okay to call them Obamaphones when many of the people getting them now use that term because they believe he made it possible for them to get him?

Call it a Reagan phone because he originated free phones while he was President.

Or a "Ronnie phone".

I think it is a waste of money, no matter who is paying for them.
