A Davenport man behind bars on kidnapping and rape charges recently had his father hand-deliver a threatening letter to his ex-girlfriend, police say.

Nathan D. Ronnau, 29, of 3438 Heatherton Drive, Apt. 5, now faces a first-degree harassment charge in addition to first-degree kidnapping and second-degree sex abuse.

The victim of the harassment lived with Ronnau off and on for six or seven years and ended the relationship in December, police say.

According to an affidavit:

On July 27, the victim's daughter found a letter taped on their apartment door.

Ronnau wrote, "I told you what I would do if I ever lost you."

He also wrote, "There have better not be another man ever cuz when I get out all hell will break loose. I don't care how long it takes for me to get out. You don't want to know how or what I will do if I find out you've been with another man."

He added, "Please please don't take any of this as just words."

Police spoke to Ronnau's father, who confirmed he delivered the letter to the victim's residence for his son without knowing its contents, the affidavit states.

The victim requested an order of protection.

The harassment charge is an aggravated misdemeanor that carries a possible two-year prison sentence.

Ronnau also faces a penalty of life in prison if he's found guilty of first-degree kidnapping.

He is accused to choking a woman until she lost consciousness, dragging her to the 1700 block of Iowa Street and raping her in the early morning hours of July 1.

He's in the Scott County Jail on a $1 million bond.

Sadly you're probably right and "protective" orders aren't worth the paper they're written on.

He should get life based on that letter but sadly probably won't.

I'd guess out in 18 months or time served. Rapists seldom get any real time and since she was living with him, the defense will make it "not-really-rape".

As to his father...I have no words for that. Either staggering blindness and stupidity or a guy just as bad as his son.

it's more important to keep pot smokers off the street than this guy. I'm sure they are the real danger

I hope they can use the note against the son but I agree with Carpy, he won;t get much time and he will probably kill her at some point

The justice system sucks when it comes to victims of abuse and rape.
