People who drink like fish and find fault with those who smoke marijuana irritate the heck out of me.

Alcohol is far more dangerous.

Drunkeness makes many loud, obnoxious, belligerent and reckless.  Do you think alcohol is a better mood altering drug than Mj?

Substance abuse is bad.

But I can relate to your frustration. Someone who occasionally drink alcohol recreationally (because us there any other way? Lol) is not 'better than' someone who recreationally smokes marijuana. Someone who does neither is not 'better than' someone who does one or the other, or both.

There is a stigma attatched to smoking marijuana that will take a bit to go away, even after it's been legalized.

If you "need" it all of the time you are addicted. I don't take illegal drugs, I usually don't even take an asprin. I can go months without alcohol. But yes, I can also drink a beer or 2 or a glass of wine here and there. But 10 drinks in 12 months hardly makes me an addict.

What is your point?

I find it difficult to be around any kind of addiction......

Marijuana is not physically addictive where as alcohol is, to the point of death from abstinence actually.  Do you ever drink a glass of wine?  are you an addict?

Thats dependance and its a lot different than addiction.  People can become psychologically dependant on an awful lot of things...

Quoting ProudMommaBear:

I'm not going to argue but it is emotionally addictive. Not physically like most other things but emotionally it can be. Some people use it so much they feel they can not function without it and it becomes habitual.

I think any mind altering addiction is wrong.

Marijuana is not addictive.

Out of the many people I know who partake of mj only one is dependant and feels any "need".  I know a lot of people who appreciate the benefits of it and that could translate to need.  An MS patient I know uses it frequently to control pain and other symptoms of his disease but thats an acceptable need, no?  A joint on friday night doesnt make anyone an addict either.  Thats my point.

I dont like either I dont do either one.  If someone is near me.  I would prefer  for them to drink so I don't have to smell the nasty stink coming from marijuana.  YUCK!!  It's as bad as someone smoking a cigarette near me - I hate the smell and want to vomit!!!!

Both are a mistake.  Anything you NEED to use to medicate yourself so you don't face your problems is a mistake.

Ok, How does smoking a joint seperate one from their problems?

If I need to medicate myself it is to seperate from my pain not my problems.  Mj keeps me in better touch than say, percocet.

Also want to add that alcohol will seem to do that I suppose but in reality it tends to cause a lot more in the long run lol.  Mj does not intoxicate one to the point of not facing problems.  It is a mild intoxicant only somewhat more intoxicating than caffiene.

Ok- here is the tricky part with any substance use: NOONE ever admits to "NEEDING" it. Every user says they can stop at any time....... doesn't matter what they are using. And everyone around them knows how far from the truth they are!   lol

Taking drugs to relieve cronic pain/cancer not included in my any of my replies.....

If you are actually using it for pain, in lieu of Advil or something, AND if it is legal there, you are fine.

Most people use alcohol and weed because they just want to forget things for a few hours.
