Masturbation is Wrong Because It's 'Sex for One' Claims Focus on the Family
Focus on the Family is a Christian ministry that is well known for its strong opposition to gay marriage, divorce and premarital sex.
But according to a new article by Glenn Stanton on the Focus on the Family website, masturbation is also wrong because it is performed alone.
Masturbation is not actually mentioned in the Bible as a sin, but Stanton was able to do some mental gymnastics in order to come to the conclusion that masturbation is wrong:
Therefore masturbation, like pornography, is incomplete because
it doesn't involve the communion of two self-giving people, one to
another. It's sex for one and isn't God's ideal for us; it's merely
taking from one's self and doesn't mirror the nature of the Trinity.
No member of the Trinity turns in on Himself in any manner. Their relational expression is always to the others. Remember, God said it was not good for man (or woman) to be alone, and in sexualized form, that's what masturbation is.
However, the Bible never says that it is actually a sin to be alone. In fact, the Apostle Paul actually advocated being single in order to better serve God.
Stanton saved his harshest language for homosexuality, which he called a "particularly evil lie of Satan" towards the end of the article:
All sexual sin is wrong because it fails to mirror the Trinitarian image, but homosexuality does more than fail. It's a particularly evil lie of Satan because he knows that it overthrows the very image of the Trinitarian God in creation, revealed in the union of male and female.
Ironically, Focus on the Family CEO Jim Daly spoke out against Christians who placed too much emphasis on homosexuality in his 2012 book, "In ReFocus: Living a Life that Reflects God's Heart."
According to The Huffington Post, Daly warned conservative evangelicals to be "careful to not create a 'super sin' out of homosexuality."
