I just found out that Blue Cross Blue Shield is discontinuing all of their previous plans to roll out new healthcare reform plans. My husband and I pay $600 a month for a family of five. We just found out that a similar plan will now cost $1350 as of October 1st when changes at BCBS take effect to comply with Obamacare. Heard rumors of government subsidy to help defray cost of monthly premium and our agent said only a few 'select' plans are available for subsidy.

The 'select plans' are basically extended Medicaid. So if you were working your ass off so your family can have insurance, it's going to be taken away from you and inflated to a monthly premium that's completely out of your financial range. As a consolation prize, your employer will offer you Marketplace Insurance, or you can buy it yourself and have it subsidized by the government. Either way, its just Medicaid under a different name. Unfortunately for you, doctors aren't legally required to accept Medicaid, and since they only pay pennies on the dollar, it's hard to find a physician if you're not a child or a pregnant adult.

DH and I are both employed at seperate small businesses with around 75-100 employees each. People at my job are having their hours cut back by 10-12 hours a week to have LESS full time employees and DH's company is starting to lay off 20 part time employees so they can have MORE full time employees. We are waiting on pins and needles to see if DH (who works 30-35 hours a week) will be one of those layed off, as he's only been there for four years and doesn't have alot of seniority.

I'm really upset. We are not well off. We live a modest life that we make comfortable by working our asses off. Now we're losing our insurance, possibly losing a job and being forced by the government to take some bullshit subsidy for some bullshit insurance that we really don't want. This is the absolute antithesis of the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. This isn't going to even any playing field in health care. It's only going to aggravate class struggle and further widen the chasm between upper and lower classes.

So, fuck you Obamacare. And fuck ALL of you who support this socialist bullshit.

Oh wah. Sounds like you both need to look elsewhere for full time jobs. You should never stop looking for something better. BCBS sucks anyway. Shop around. My insurance hasn't changed at all, well premiums did go down a few dollars but not by much this year.

We have blue cross too...for a family of four.We are fine??In fact we get to keep my son on our insurance until hes 26(hes 21 now).We also have a daughter who is a freshman in highschool...so happy we can keep her on in the future too.

I care for a family member on medicaid who is disabled and their insurance is noting like blue cross. Also my husband still has his full time job as a manager and works at a large co-orperation...no cut in hours. No layoffs at this time.

I wish you well despite your hateful language.I support my president. If a republican were president I would not react in this manner.

our coverage went down and rates went up too. So far I'm not real happy with the obamacare thing. We live check to check and this has just hurt my family.

What state do you live in OP?

I feel your pain.  There is no affordable insurance being offered in my state for my family, and I will have the choice of selling my house to afford insurance that will cover little to nothing or paying fines to the government.

I am disgusted.

We have BCBS also.  Admittedly, not the best insurance but certainly not horrible.  We've always paid A TON for our insurance.  Family of five with two having pre-existing conditions, on male almost 50 and a woman still of childbearing age.  Gratefully,I found a full-time job so we o longer have to pay out the nose for a private plan.  My husband is self-employed.

We got a notice in the mail a few days ago. "Affordable" means 9.5% of ones income, for ONE person. My husband and I both work union jobs, and before now our cost to insure our whole family of 4 was less than $200/mo with blue cross. When it goes up, we're looking at almost triple that cost.

We are furious, as well. This shit needs to stop.

Under Obamacare we will actually be saving $80 a month because of a Virgin Health program the corp. I work for is using. However, the corp. I work for is no longer hiring ft associates to save on costs.

I am not sure if I am the only one but our insurance actually went down. Also, I have a preexisting condition so we never tried switching our insurance plans (my dh's company offers several different types) because I was afraid of disclosing my condition.  We were able to look at his other plans though we decided to stick with our current one.

But no one seems to tell the people who caused this problem to do these things. Outrageous.
