democrats, republicans and the shut down, oh my... who's to blame now?

I'm at work so I can't look this for validity. I called my local senator this morning to explain my liberal complaint on the congress shut down. She said the repubs tried to pass a bill ensuring VA benefits and things of that nature would be held intact and the dems shut it down. Is this true?

I think the Dems stance at this point is that ALL government offices open or none.  No piece meal.

This.  Senate wants a full, clean bill (continuing resolution) and won't settle for less.  House is trying to pass piecemeal legislation.

Harry Reid refuses to bring any of those bills from the House to a vote.

But doesn't that train of thought hold the American public hostage? The people are being hurt by all this. Is it fair to blame the pubs when the dems don't seem to want to compromise either. I'm very confused on who the blame actually lies on.

Lets see Bush was to blame for the things that happened on his watch, so wouldn't that mean Obama is to blame?

I think boehner and reid should both be overthrown. I'd also like to throw cruz out too.
