Teaching Common Sense & Safety to Kids

Posted by   + Show Post

THIS is how it was done before helicopter parenting took over. How would you feel if your kid brought this booklet home from school TODAY?

Id love to have let my kids have seen this. That way it would have put in bigger picture the reasons "WHY" we dont or do allow them certain things i want a copy of that.. lol

I think this is great and this is how I try to teach my kids about safety.  My absolute favorite part is the fire safety section.  Notice it doesn't say that children should never, ever build a fire or be near one.  It simply gives tips on how to safely do so.  Very boy-scouty.  I love it!

The horror!  Letting kids know that there are real, and gruesome consequences for not paying attention and doing stupid things?!

This is my new response to "But we grew up without carseats/seatbelts/kneepads/helicopter parents and we turned out okay".  "Yes, but society was honest with out about what might happen out there!" lol

Um, this is pretty similar to what we got when I was in elementary school eons ago. In fact, we also watched a pretty traumatizing bus safety video in which several kids got run over by the bus for doing various things that are a bus safety violation. That one scarred me for life.

My kids grew up with carseats and helmets AND knowing what might happen out there!

They're not mutually exclusive.
