High school pranks like streaking are usually harmless and may lead to minor discipline from the school, but no one ever expects it to end in tragedy.

Well, that's exactly what happened in an Alabama high school.

It all started when 15-year-old Christian Adamek, who was quite popular among his peers, decided to streak across the field at a football game. After his prank, which his fellow students praised him for, the school district had him arrested. Going even further, they took to a local news station to publicly threaten him with expulsion, criminal charges, and get him put on the sex offender's registry.

Just a week after the streaking incident, while the district was threatening him, Adamek hanged himself. Two days later, he died in the hospital.

The district, which most say has blood on its hands following the boy's suicide, declined to comment on Adamek's death, but did put out a statement saying that their "prayers and thoughts are with the family during this time of bereavement."

Now, as family and friends mourn the loss of the young by with a bright future, many blame the school district for the way they treated Adamek after doing something that many teenagers do.

The incident is now being investigated to see what part the school played in the boy's death, but despite the circumstances, the boy's mother Angela spoke fondly of her son at his memorial service.

"Remember to smile," she said. "Don't be afraid to do something goofy and remember the consequences of those actions, ask for help when you need it, ask for help if you think your friends need it if you don't know what to do, be quirky, be happy, be smart."

I'm sure they were just trying to make an example of him. Probably tired of people streaking. Not saying they went about it the right way but to hang himself is a pretty huge reaction.

So much for that whole public shaming and humiliation tactic that everyone praised.  Suicide is extreme, but what didn't feel extreme at that age?  I remember thinking I was going to die of embarrassment on several occasions.  Or that my life was over because a group of girls started vicious rumors about me.  His school district publicly threatened to put him on a sex offender list.  I can't imagine his humiliation.

I think that the threat of putting this 15yr in the sex offenders list was too much for the young man.. I think the school went too far with their threats...

The sex offender list is abused when people like this are put on the list. Fucking stupid.

I think there has to be more to the suicide than this.  A person who is not already depressed isn't going to kill themselves over something like this.  While the school's behavior may have been the last straw, I doubt they are wholly responsible

I think there is more going on than this threat from the school

What was home life like? Was he on medication? was he depressed? Stressed?

One thing happens or MIGHT happen and he hangs himself?

I know... A sex offender list is truly the end of the rope for good people though. I have a friend who sexts with her husband, we were at a pool party and another child grabbed his phone.

The parents tried to have him arrested for distributing porn to a minor. He lost his job, they were excommunicated from church and after all was said and done the DA chose not to prosecute. Either way, they had to move cross country because their names were tarnished and nobody local would hire him... and it wasn't the economy, he recieved over 20 interviews and six offers in a matter of days.

No one should end up on the sex offender registry for streaking. It just corrupts the sex offender registry, which should be for sexual predators.
