A couple of my friends on Facebook were surprised that my son had school today. I tried to find stats on different states, but either there is not enough information or my Googling skills just suck. I found this link, which states:

Q. Why do some schools close and others remain in session on Veterans Day?

A. Because there is no legal requirement that schools close on Veterans Day, individual states or school districts are free to establish their own policies on school closings. Most schools that do not close for Veterans Day schedule assemblies or other activities to honor America's veterans on Veterans Day and throughout the week that includes Veterans Day.

My theory is that it's mostly military towns (those with a military base nearby) that are closed. What do you think?

Our schools are open and Dobbins Air Force base is right down the road.

Our schools are open.  I chose "other" because I live outside Washington DC so I am not sure whether my town would be classified as a "military town", per se, but we have a lot of military families.

I have always lived near a military base growing up. We always had school on this day but it was spent doing lunches with vets and other things to thank the vets.

We are not necessarily a military town but we are close enough JBLM that a lot of the families that live here are military.  I wouldn't say that's is the majority of the population.

We do not have school today.

Our schools are closed. We live in a small town, the nearest Military base (JBLM) is about a 45 minute drive from here. Dd is happy though as the folks she babysits for needed her for the entire day....she's making money..LOL

Our schools are closed today and tomorrow, they are using the time for admin stuff. Not sure if it actually has anything to do with Veteran's day or not.
