What's all the fascination with JFK?

I don't get it.

I know it's the anniversary of his assassination. What I don't get is why he is seen as a hero.

Fifty years ago today he was assassinated.  He was charming, young, had a beautiful wife, small children, and was a breath of fresh air in Washington after decades of older, dour, less modern men.  Because he died so young and so tragically, it froze him in place and time, never old, infirm, always the hope of a new generation.

I think it is just a result of his tragic death and it is still relatively recent in our history.

I don't really "get" it either, but I wasn't even close to born yet when he was assassinated. I mean, I understand it intellectually but I don't have the emotional response that othes seem to have.

Fifty is an anniversary to which people give extra significance.  Blame the fact that we have five fingers and think anniversaries in the 10s, 50s, and 100s are somehow more important.

Kennedy was an interesting guy, defintiely worth learning more about.

He's the most recent US president to be assassinated.  I would think that's relatively impressive.

That is a good reason to be fascinated with it
