Strong Opinions.  Well Liked.  Political.  Went after Debate Coach?

On Arapahoe School Shooter: "Very Proud Of Being A Socialist"

The gunman responsible for Friday's shooting at Arapahoe High School in Colorado is being described as a "socialist" by his fellow students.

"He was friendly enough. Very proud of being a socialist. He was very outspoken on his political views," student Angie Mock said. "To him, it just meant economic -- more economic equality."

Pierson has been described as a dedicated and bright student from a religious family who attends Bible study meetings, leaving those that knew him shocked.

"They're just a normal middle-class family, like many of the families around here," neighbour Diane Shea said.

Thomas Conrad, who had an economics class with the gunman, described him as a very opinionated Socialist.

"He was exuberant I guess," Conrad told The Denver Post.

UPDATE: I think it is rather telling that no where in this post is anyone accusing this kid of doing this horrible act because he was a socialist.

Just questioning the descriptions others have had of the shooter.  He was proud, he felt he was always right...  Known, possibly even ridiculed for his political rants.

But, because the word Socialist was used, SOOOO many became defensive.  Speaks volumes.

Yet, in the past the media has falsely tried to link the Tea Party to shooters and many on CM went off on the right side of politics.  No one is going after the left here.

The bigger question: Was this kid SO proud and felt he was always right that he couldn't accept criticism or other views?  Did he become obsesssed with his views?

More questions than answers.  Questions that we all should be asking as we send our kids to high school.

More questions than answers at this point.

I think the questions are what were the problems between him and his debate coach that set this kid off.

Well, I live in Colorado and it seems that he was not targeting any one person so much as planning mass killing.  We don't know what set him off, it may be one of many things.  His political beliefs, of which I share a great deal, would not spur him on to kill

So, are you saying the reports of him seeking out and specifically asking others for the location of one particular person(debate coach) are false?

He asked the question once.  The police and FBI reported last night that he planned to do massive damage and kill a lot of people.

CNN: To schoolmates, Pierson was known for his outspoken intelligence that served him well on the debate team. But at times, he acted "weird" and alienated peers with rants about communism and his aggressiveness to win every argument, they said.

His rants could have been about anything.  I am not at all sure what your point is.

Pierson entered his school looking for the debate team's coach,CNN affiliate KUSA reported, citing Robinson. Pierson was apparently seeking revenge against a faculty member because of a "confrontation or disagreement," the sheriff said.

OK, so the national news is reporting different things than what you are hearing in CO.. Got it.

Clearly this student was mentally disturbed. That's why he brought his weapon to school.and started shooting. That's it.

But if he had previous rants of the Tea Party, te same people who are saying "his political beliefs mean nothing" or "he was deranged so move along", would be in here blasting the Tea Party and Republicans.
