Man Convicted of Killing 16-Year-Old Special Olympian Tried to Blame Her
Tyler Savage is a man who fits his last name quite well. The 21-year-old man from Washington has just been convicted of aggravated first-degree murder for raping and murdering 16-year-old Kimberly Daily, a Special Olympian who was described as having the mental capacity of a fifth grader.
Just let that sink in. This man raped and killed a young girl who was already terribly vulnerable and child-like. But it gets worse. In trial, he tried to blame it on her.
Savage, who took the stand in his own defense, tried to say that he and Daily were having consensual sex that went wrong after SHE asked HIM to strangle her during sex. He claimed she died after the clothing he'd tied around her neck strangled her.
It kind of makes me want to vomit that anyone would be so brazenly awful to try to blame a developmentally disabled child for her own murder. I won't shed any tears over this guy being locked up for life.
What makes this story even more tragic is that Daily already had a hard life. She was born with fetal alcohol syndrome and her mental capacity was similar to that of a 10- or 11-year-old. She also had disabled feet that left her with a limp.
My heart absolutely breaks at the thought of this vulnerable young girl being preyed upon this way. Somehow it's made all the more sick by the idea that this man tried to blame her. Savage, indeed.
Even if it HAD been "consensual," her mental capacity would have made that a moot point, and further, any human being with half a heart would know that it wasn't a good idea. Savage didn't have any mental delays. He just had a cold heart and total disregard for a fellow human being.
He will serve life in prison, but for this crime, I am not sure that's nearly enough. How do you adequately punish a person so lacking in humanity?
This will haunt me for a while.
What do you make of his "defense"?
