They Are Still Coming Home In Body Bags.....

Posted by   + Show Post

One of my good friends is a USO volunteer.  She goes to the Philadelphia Airport USO and escorts the FOF (family of the fallen) to their loved one to reunite them for a final time as they bring home their dead loved ones for burial.  It is a horrible, painful, emotionally wrenching thing to do, but my friend is amazing and she helps ease the pain and transition for these folks.  She often will post about the soldiers she is helping to bring home for a final time.  She posted this yesterday:

I am grateful for those serving and their families who also sacrifice.

I wouldn't call it brainwashing but recruiters do make it sound quite different than the reality of it. I remember recruiters telling my older kids about getting a college education, seeing the world, etc.,  they made it sound almost like a great travel club and resort. Then just last year I went with my youngest Dd to a career day at the high school that her class was require to attend. I was right beside her when she asked a military recruiter what it was like to be in a war zone. He told her not much different than anywhere else, there are cell phones, computers, etc. nearly everywhere, etc. etc. He made it sound like a person was just as safe in a war zone as she would be walking down the street of our small town. Sorry but that made me angry, I so wanted to say something about his lies and that's what it was but we just walked away. Just about two weeks ago another recruiter was telling my son nearly the same line of bs. IMO they should be required to tell the truth and let these kids know that they may well be killed or severly injured for life.

Thank you . I'm happy for you and your kiddies. :-)

Quoting Mommy_of_Riley: I'm very glad your husband came home to you safe. :-)

Mine just returned from a deployment last month.

Quoting lga1965: Of course humanitarian efforts are wonderful.

But, telling our military to go to wsr zones and arming them, possibly leading to their death is morally wrong. Then if they survive, they come home with no help from the big guys who sent them to unjustified wars.

It's insane.

My DH was in the USAF for 21 years and was almost shot out of the sky by a Russian MIG in.1969. During the Vietnam War, another huge mistake and unjustified.

I don't know why anyone volunteers. My DH was drafted then made it a career. I was afraid for him the whole time. But, he didn't hear it from.me. Military wives have tp smile and be brave.

Quoting Mommy_of_Riley: If you want us to go to those areas we have to get rid of the UN.

The US brought up intervention in Sudan and we were told to "Let Africa solve African problems".
No joke.

Also... The US military does a lot of good. My husband has been on several humanitarian missions (helping victims in the Phillipines after the mudslides back in 2006, he helped victims in Japan after the Fukashima incident, he has helped in other areas as well)
Quoting lga1965: We don't need to wage war anywhere else. Our military die every day ....and for what reason ?

It's not to protect us.....everyone in other areas of the world need protection from us. Our flag waving, naive citizens have no idea.

We haven't had a legal or justifiable reason to wage war since WWII.....Now, if we wanted to stop Genocide , that would be justified, but we aren't in those areas, are we? No.

Quoting mikiemom:

Yes they are and if you read another post folks want us to attack North Korea Sigh.

IMO. I don't know why people would sign up to kill other people for rich people.

Quoting Debmomto2girls:

Hmm...the part highlighted is uncalled for and insulting to those who have fought.

Quoting LaughCryLive:

We will never stop war as long as someone has something we want. Unfortunately politicians are cowards and the people who join the military is brainwashed.

I can assure you I was never brainwashed nor was my husband or any of my other Army buddies. We are and always have been free thinkers. Most signed up for the benefits. Some stayed in most fulfilled their contact and got out.

I signed up before 2001. So did my husband and my other friends. We all got out after our enlistment was up. I went to war and it sucks. Decided I won't do that again. Although you should know Soldiers serve in times of peace as well. National guard serves their community during times of natural disasters.

Oh, please. Going overseas to kill people for no damn reason doesn't make them special.

Quoting vic270:

how dare you to have so little respect for our all voluntary military. that is enough to make me sick to my stomach. you don't deserve to live in this great country that they have given to you.
