Sarah Palin riffs on “Duck Dynasty”: “We won”

OXON HILL, Md. -- Looking out on a ballroom full of friendly faces, former Alaska Gov. and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin closed the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday with a 34-minute soliloquy on the state of American politics - including a riff on what has become one of her favorite topics of late: "Duck Dynasty."

Attempting to drive home a point about the "perpetually 'panties-in-a-wad people'" who go after firebrands like her, Palin thrilled the crowd of activist conservatives when she reminded them about the time the media got "their skirts all tangled up over their heads" about the A&E show.

Phil Robertson, the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch, was briefly suspended from the series over controversial remarks he made about gay people.

"Here's Phil, he's talking about faith, with a reporter from GQ - first mistake," Palin commented to laughter. "But in between saying that he loves humanity, he loves all us sinners and - leave it to God to judge - well, he quoted the Bible, and he got colorful in expressing his opinion.

"So what did that brilliant TV network do?" she went on. "They fired him. They canned the devout Christian for expressing his devout Christian views on a television show about his devout Christian family.

"But Robertson, as Palin pointed out, was reinstated to the network hit a week later. She credited "people all over America" - not just "the wingers and clingers" - for having "pushed back, and we won."

Won what? The right to say what you want to? Did she not read the Freedom of Speech part? We protect this freedom. He didn't say anyone else needed to believe as he did.

She's either an idiot for not realizing the duck dynasty thing was a deliberately engineered publicity stunt from the start, or she knows damn well it is but thinks her audience are all idiots who don't realize that it was and is milking them as much as she can.

Something tells me she is milking it,. Her evaluation of Duck Dynasty's Phil was heavily devoted to his Christianity and Christians and how they love everyone , even sinners. That will pull in the Conservative Christian Republicans...in case she wants to run for office again. :)

I find it Finn that most of you people truly believe she is a real person .

Has it ever occurred to you that almost everything and everyone is an engineered thing?

DD ratings are down 40% or so.  Probably not entirely due to Phil, but what it indicates is that the show's appeal has narrowed rather than broadened.   Palin and her brand of politics have done exactly the same to the GOP.  From my POV, that's a great thing.
