Poll

Question: Do you feel that black face and white face are offensive no matter what the context is?

Options:

Yes. It is never okay to paint your face to look like another race.

No. I never thought black face or white face was ever offensive.

I think it's acceptable as long as the person isn't demeaning or making fun of another race.

I know many people were offended by the pastor who portrayed Mr.T by painting his face.

I feel like there is a difference between black face and an honest imitation of another a person from another ethnicity.

For example: a few years ago there was a show called Black. White. It took two familes, one black and one white, switched their ethnicities and had them live a week in the life of the other family and documented their experiances. Technically, the white family was in "black face" and the black family was in "white face" do you find that offensive?

I actually liked that show! It was really interesting. I guess for me, in general it is offensive if it is done with malicious intent.

I liked it too, lol. And I completely agree. It's all about the intent.

I will not have a temper tantrum nor stomp across the floor.

I will not pout, scream or shout or kick against the door.

I will not throw my food around nor pick upon another.

I’ll always try to be real good because I am the mother.

Do you think the pastor who dressed up as Mr. T was being mean spirited?

There was a book written in the 60s called "Black Like Me."  It was written by a white man who took drugs and wore makeup to make his skin black.  It showcased how different the black and white worlds were at the time.

It really wasn't meant to be mean. At least what I saw. It was Mr. T and Curly from the three stooges, lol.

Oh absolutely. To me, that is the definition of black face. Not just painting your face black to too look like someone else. But drawing comically big lips and acting like an idiot.

Oh wow... Now that sounds like an interesting read!

You know my mom never even saw a black person until she was 8? (Back in '68) Her neighborhood was that segregated.
