Why people think naked men are gross?

Posted by   + Show Post

I just read an interesting article that I thought you guys would enjoy. I had never really given it much thought, but I always found it odd that so many people would say things like "Seeing that dude's butt scarred me for life". As a teenager I recall my friends expressing concern over ever having to see a man naked, saying their genitals were gross, meanwhile I just felt curious and not at all disgusted.

I don't think naked dudes are gross, I actually enjoy them. But apparently lots of people find male nudity to be upsetting. I've heard the same thing about naked men on television. That audiences can handle a naked woman, but not a naked man, and that showing penises, especially erect penises is considered too "hostile".

So, why is there so much body hatred for men?

No actually I didn't know what she meant because I happen to know more "bear" gay men and I honestly found her comment "he got a gay boy" for a photography shoot to be confusing. Clearly I wasn't the only person as another has commented.

As far as being more liberal than Obama....well, that's a whole other thread lol

Quoting Gamer_mom1:

Seriously I'm so liberal I'd make Obama blush and you're being a little ridiculous. You know exactly what she meant. You just found an opportunity to correct someone.

Quoting Seracake:

Yes I readily admit you are judgmental and ill informed about gay boys. Hopefully you've learned there are no more stereotypical gay boys than there are stereotypical male forms. If you didn't learn, well, I tried.

Quoting EireLass:

Well, it's good to see people here admit they're judgemental.

Quoting Seracake:

Oh I know what stereotypical means enough that I am capable of putting together a stereotypical judgment about someone who says their former teacher got a gay boy for a photo shoot.

Quoting EireLass:

You do understand what stereotypical means, don't you?

Quoting Seracake:

Lol well I could certainly put together some stereotypical assumptions based off your comment but I won't. I can assure you, there is no stereotypical gay  male form just as there is no stereotypical heterosexual male form. There are many androgynous looking heterosexual men.

Quoting EireLass:

They sure do.

But I assure you, this 'boy' was the sterotypical 'gay boy'.

Now, had he hired a male model who was gay, but buffed out, had 'typiical' manly charicteristics, but gay....it would have worked for me. Perhaps he wasn't clear on what I meant when I asked for a MAN.

Quoting Seracake:

Yes you did. Why you couldn't have simply said skinny, hairless and femme looking rather than "gay boy", I'll never know. Just so you're aware, "gay boys" appearance do vary from human being to human being.

Quoting EireLass:

Maybe I mistakenly thought people would understand the look I was refering to.

Quoting Seracake:

Do you think only gay boys can be skinny and femme looking? I'm curious why you felt you had to add your teacher "got a gay boy."

Quoting EireLass:

Skinny, hairless, femme looking.....also had the 'young boy' look going on.

Quoting Seracake:

What about "the gay boy" he got was unappealing for photographs?

Quoting EireLass:

Maybe it's part of the obesity thing?  I hate the sight of fat men without clothes.

My husband is very physically fit...competitive weight lifter...so I like that look.

I am now a photog, and have had opportunity to photograph nude women. They are comfy, I am comfy, and the pics are very artistic when finished. I asked my old photog teacher to hire a male willing to go mostly nude. He got a gay boy. Nope....didn't look good to me.

When we go back to Cuba, the men on the beach probably show more than women. It can be very shocking to someone who isn't used to that.

Quoting furbabymum:

I was thinking this may be because we're taught that if a man is showing things he's a pervert. I remember seeing very few guys in thongs at Water World when I was younger and when I did they were "gross perverts" for showing things.

1 mom liked this

Ha I bet! We were in Japan for 4 years and the porn there has all penises blacked out. You see all the girl parts but not a single penis. So weird!

Oh, why they didn't appeal to me? Too skinny, too young looking, etc.

Quoting ..MoonShine..:

I'm going based on your replies about "stereotypical gay boys" rather than "knowing what you're talking about." I had the same question that seracake had, she just asked it first.

Quoting EireLass:

You can think however you'd like, but obviously you know what I'm talking about by your comment.

I have both 'types' in my life.

Same with the lesbians. Although I have a larger lesbian circle, and more of them are manly than fem. And quite a few are 'man-haters', been married, etc. I've never met a 'woman-hating' gay man though.

Quoting ..MoonShine..:

Why? So I can think more stereotypically about what a gay man should look like? I didn't say I've never met a gay man that looks like that, just that the gay men in MY life do not look like that.

Quoting EireLass:

You should get out more.

Quoting ..MoonShine..:

The gay boys I know do not look like that. LOL

Yes, but your first question was why it didn't appeal to me. I told you too skinny, to 'boyish' (that means very young) looking. I know both types, and I would not call the 'bear-type' a gay BOY. I'm sorry you didn't know the difference between a boy and a man.

Really? You admitted you were stereotypically judging me.

And no, I'm not ill-informed on what a 'gay boy' is. I see one 3x a week.

There are stereotypes of gay boys, lesbian women, Irish, Italian, blacks, etc....EVERYTHING.  Don't you watch TV or leave your house?

And  told you. Too skinny, to young boyish looking, etc.

I've had female shoots where I've had to ADD weight to them. Too skinny. Not appealing at all.

I'm sorry you've made a big deal where there wasn't one.

Eh... A naked body is a naked body.

Woman. Man.

I really don't think that someone not wanting to see naked men means they find a man's body gross in any way anymore than it means they find a naked woman's body gross.  The amount of clothing one has on doesn't make them, man or woman, any more or less attractive. Personally I enjoy Dh naked but I don't have any desire to view other men naked and I don't enjoy seeing a woman on the beach with her bare bottom hanging out.  Not wanting or enjoying seeing strangers naked could be as simple as they just don't have a desire to see body parts flapping in the wind. I find it a bit strange that someone not wanting to see a stranger nude is seen as thinking the human body is gross.
