UNRWA CONDEMNS PLACEMENT OF ROCKETS, FOR A SECOND TIME, IN ONE OF ITS SCHOOLS

AGENCY DEMANDS FULL RESPECT FOR THE SANCTITY OF ITS PREMISES IN GAZA

Gaza

Today, in the course of the regular inspection of its premises, UNRWA discovered rockets hidden in a vacant school in the Gaza Strip. As soon as the rockets were discovered, UNRWA staff were withdrawn from the premises, and so we are unable to confirm the precise number of rockets. The school is situated between two other UNRWA schools that currently each accommodate 1,500 internally displaced persons.

UNRWA strongly and unequivocally condemns the group or groups responsible for this flagrant violation of the inviolability of its premises under international law.

The Agency immediately informed the relevant parties and is pursuing all possible measures for the removal of the objects in order to preserve the safety and security of the school. UNRWA will launch a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

UNRWA has reinforced and continues to implement its robust procedures to maintain the neutrality of all its premises, including a strict no-weapons policy and regular inspections of its installations, to ensure they are only used for humanitarian purposes.

Palestinian civilians in Gaza rely on UNRWA to provide humanitarian assistance and shelter. At all times, and especially during escalations of violence, the sanctity and integrity of UN installations must be respected.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, and microfinance.

Financial support to UNRWA has not kept pace with an increased demand for services caused by growing numbers of registered refugees, expanding need, and deepening poverty. As a result, the Agency's General Fund (GF), supporting UNRWA’s core activities and 97 per cent reliant on voluntary contributions, has begun each year with a large projected deficit. Currently the deficit stands at US$ 69 million.

That problem would be eliminated if they were allowed to have a military base and a military would be nice too.

Problem would be elminated with some common sense, caring about their people, a sense or resposibility that their actions are hurting their people, among other things. Them needing a military has NOTHING to do with this. There are costs to their actions, cause and effects, and they need to learn this. They're just showing the world more and more that they don't give a damn.

I am not a huge Hamas supporter although I do throw some support behind  all resistance. I am more of of a P.F.L.P. which makes Hamas look like kindergarten children on the play ground.

However they are the elected by the people of Gaza who elected them through elections by choice. And if that's you version of "common sense" then I guess israel , the USA, or no land of people need a military. I also think you may see a little more common sense that is hidden from you and all other American's if you did a little research and educated your self on all the organizations and political, governing party's. I do not intend  that to sound argumentative or harsh just an observation and  discussion.

VACANT could be a key word.

And I agree with the poster above. If Palestine could legally have a military you wouldn't see militias and terrorists like Hamas.

"Jews" is actually the wrong word. It's the Zionist regime they target but they would not have to if they stopped violating resolution's constantly. In every one of the what my last count was 77 violations of resolution every time the UN used the word was in the many violation's of resolutions that were due to eviction of Arabee in the West Bank, Palestinian territory to make way for building what israel called "All Jewish settlement's"s". Other than that the U.N. does not say "Jew" and "israel" is not just Jews there. There are Arabee citizen's, Muslim's and Christian's who hold an israel cititzenship because they sold their ass to the regime to minimize the brutality to only being second class citizen's so they would not be fuck with as much.

Just to add they are those I, and most have no respect for. That is the problem with Arab if given the chance not to suffer as much they will go with the oppressor instead of having the ball's to stand strong with their people and fight for what is right because they are coward's

But the UN has no direct problem with Jews. That is a stupid thing to say. They actually have also turned their back and allowed the Zionist entity to get away with many war crimes because the USA came their defence and they just shove it under the rug. Well it has come to point that the rest of the world has had it and as the rest of the world is now speaking up the UN really has no choice but talk what is all a bunch of bull shit they think people want to hear and only slap them on the wrist with a lousy "target of resolution" in words only with no sanction or accountability.

israel has self determined that Universal Law doe not apply to them and refuse to recognize it because they say they are "chosen".

Wasn't it a UN Resolution which helped create Israel?

The only reason the UN exists to to have a body to thwart the interests of Israel and the US.
