Unsinking the Sinkable: The Costa Concordia

This is fascinating.

They are finally towing the Costa Concordia to Genoa after 2.5 years

What a salvage project. I think it cost over one billion for what they figure will amount to six hundred million in salvage dollars.

That doesn't even come close to the human cost or the cost the captain faces.

Bump!

This is fascinating even though there's no feasible way to blame Obama.

It's pretty amazing what humans can accomplish...and spend hella $$$ on! :)

And I'm sure there's a contortionist in here somewhere who can twist and spin this into Obama's fault.

That's amazing.  I can't imagine it will end up being economically profitable but it's very cool just the same.  We have come a long way from the days of the Mary Ellen Carter.

I keep hoping someone will to keep this thread alive lol.
My husband is fascinated by shipwrecks so I've been kept up to date on this one. It is amazing and very tragic. Complete with a villainous captain.

Surely someone will find a way lol!

How far you go in life depends on your being: tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of both the weak and strong.  Because someday in life you would have been one or all of these.  GeorgeWashingtonCarver

They are still hunting for one body so there is tragedy too. There is just something haunting and compelling to me about shipwrecks. I must admit the song The Edmond Fitzgerald gives me chills lol.

Now the Mary Ellen Carter is going to give me something to research!

amazing how much pain and destruction can be brought by the poor decisions of one man (the captain). the re floating has been absolutely amazing to watch.

Did they finally recover all of the bodies?
