Why Are The Victims of 9/11 Considered Heros?

HERO:  A person  who, in the opinon of others, has heroic qualities or has performed heroic acts and is reguarded as a model or ideal.

The victims of 9/11 did mothing more than be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  The ones that are heros are the passangers that took down that one plane. The heros, by definition are the  firefighters and rescue workers.  So why are the victims considered heros?

It has always grated on me and I don't know why.

You don't know what may have happened in those final moments in those towers or on those planes. So for all you know they could have done something heroic and the world will never know because they did it to bring comfort to the ones who were there in their final moments. As a daughter of a fire fighter who has had to bury active fire fighters you never know what those final moments are like and the power of human kindness coming from others because death ends that unseen moment

We'll not all could have been. In a way they were martyrs. Some that were helping were heroes. The ones that went into the building to save people instead of running, really were.

I thought that applied only to the emergency workers and the people on that plane.

But they call them all heros.  Just like the ones in OKC.

My husband served in the air force during 9/11. He was awardes for his work. Yet the victums were also, and we totally get it. They helped others, some lost their life helping another. There are tons of reasons why & its ok with my husband and myself.

I have repeatedly heard the news refer to the people that died in the buildings as heroes.  I think the rescue workers and civilians that tried to help are heroes.
