Do Atheists Do Suicide Prevention?

There are 2 posts and one current news story that sort of got me to formulate this thought :

Gideons give Bibles freely to hotels to keep in the rooms. In the front of a Gideon Bible are a couple pages with a section title of "Help in Time of Need" that give you passages for specific needs, such as "Peace in time of TURMOIL" and a following section tilted, "What the BIble says about" such things as FAITH.

I've always kinda imagined that Gideon Bibles were mostly placed in hotel rooms to prevent people from committing suicide. I don't know if I got the idea from a movie or just dreamed it up, but that's kinda what I just always thought. At any rate, the purpose of the gifted Bibles is to help people in time of need.

Knowing that a celebrity recently hanged himself, I got thinking about this. And reading that some atheists are suing a school because its football team had a group prayer before the game, I also go to thinking...

The Gideons pass out Bibles to encourage sad, lonely people who may be "in turmoil".

SO what do atheists do?

I've been told on CM, and looked into it, that there's an national and local atheist organizations. (Kinda like a church but not a church I guess).

What, if anything, does this group do -as many churches endeavor- to prevent persons from committing suicide?

Really? You don't have to be religious to offer help for people who are thinking of suicide.

Pass around the national suicide prevention hotline? This is stupid. What do most people do to prevent someone from commmitting suicide.

My husband is a mental health liaison for the military, he is an atheist.

My DD and myself volunteered for a Suicide prevention hotline, and we are atheist.

Its ridiculously stupid to think we wouldn't want to prevent suicide.

Another one of your badly veiled attacks on Atheism, how nice.
