Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson, 28, received an award for "extraordinary effort in the line of duty" months before he gunned down unarmed teenager Mike Brown and left him in the street for 4 hours last Saturday, reports Yahoo News.

Wilson's father, John Wilson, posted how proud he was of his son on Facebook:

"Very proud of my son, Darren Wilson on his receiving a Commendation from his Police Department," John Wilson wrote on February 11. "Congratulations Son."

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson released Wilson's name during a press conference on Friday after 5 days of refusing to do so.

When reporters tried to contact Wilson, it was revealed that he and his family had "left town days ago."

Yahoo News reports:

Four days ago John Wilson turned to Facebook for support without mentioning his son by name.

"Dear FB friends, Our family is in need for prayers to be sent up for a family member," John Wilson wrote. "Circumstances do not allow for us to say anything further. Please pray with our family in mind. Put a covering of protection over our family member please."

A woman who replied in the comment thread told John that she could put him in touch with someone that "has been through many difficult times with his children. Prayers are what brought the family through the rough times. We are just a phone call away."

John Wilson thanked his many friends who were quick to offer encouragement.

"Please continue to do so as we deal with a family situation that is very challenging," he wrote.

In his last post this week, John Wilson shared a saying from a Texas evangelical pastor: "When something is ‘out of control' it is merely out of your control - not God's!"

The Ferguson police department has done it's best to paint Brown as the aggressor, describing Wilson as a "gentle" man and an "excellent" police officer who is "devastated" about killing Brown.

But he wasn't too devastated to stand over him and gun him down while the unarmed teen held his hands in the air.

The FBI is currently conducting an investigation, while the citizens of Ferguson continue to protest Brown's brutal slaying.

Jus like shoplifting has nothing to do with being shot 8 times for jaywalking

He's dead and cannot defend himself

Quoting billsfan1104: If she did this, it has nothing to do with her son.
If she is dead, she cannot defend herself, so I think she should be left out of this.

Quoting sweet-a-kins: His mom was a com artist who befriended her neighbors then stole their identities and stole hundreds of thousands

Police named Darren Wilson as the officer that shot dead Michael Brown, 18, on August 9 in Ferguson, Missouri
Neighbor's claim Wilson's mother was a known con artist
She would allegedly befriend people in the community and steal their identifies to take out loans and rack up credit card debt
Durso died when her son - now 28 - was about 18
Neighbors claim the policeman accused of shooting dead an unarmed teenager in St Louis had a serial con woman for a mother, MailOnline can reveal.

Darren Wilson’s mother Tonya Durso won the trust of her neighbors then cheated them out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by stealing their identities and taking out vast loans and credit card debt.

At the time she committed the offenses she was on parole for similar crimes elsewhere the state and afterwards died at the age of 35 under mysterious circumstances.

Neighbors today revealed how they were stunned that Wilson became a police officer after his mother behaved so deviously towards them.

Aftermath: The shooting death of Michael Brown, 18, on August 9 by policeman Darren Wilson has sent off a chain reaction of violent protests on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri. It has now been claimed Wilson's mother was a known con artist
Wilson was finally named on Friday by police in Ferguson, a suburb of St Louis, in Missouri that has been torn apart by five nights of protests and rioting over the death of Michael Brown, 18.

Wilson accused by witnesses of shooting him even though he had his hands up.

Ferguson police only disclosed his name after coming under intense pressure and facing lawsuits by civil liberties groups.

Wilson is 28 and currently lives in Crestwood, a suburb of St Louis which is 94 per cent white and 1.6 per cent black.

His house is a $180,000 bungalow with a pool and a basketball hoop in the drive on a sleepy street in a neighborhood that one resident described as 'solidly middle class'.

The property backs onto a church which reads: 'When our dream roads take strange turns'.

But Wilson’s life has not always been so idyllic.

He grew up in St Peters, another majority white suburb of St Louis, where his family were popular and well thought of - until his mother’s deception was exposed.

She had three children by at least two different men and lived with her husband at the time in a large detached bungalow on the leafy street.

Mickelle Gordon, 39, a dental assistant, lived over the road from the family and said that Wilson's mother was ‘charismatic’ and ‘charming’ and first targeted her brother Jason, who lost tens of thousands including some of his pension.

Gordon said: ‘He used to work lots and saved all his money. She said that she was an investor and that she could help him.

‘She got his social security number and stole his identity. She used it to take out loans, credit cards and went through his savings. He never got it back’.

After that she fooled Gordon’s mother Sandy Finney, 67, an office manager, and stole her ID too.

Finney said: ‘My husband and I were naive. She cleaned us out for at least $100,000 and $30,000 in cash which we didn’t get back.’

She explained that his mother used to intercept her mail and sent of for pre-approved credit cards that she would use herself.

She got into do much debt that she had to take out one loan after another just to keep the scam afloat.

Finney claimed that Wilson's mother made a copy of the key they had left by the front door to let herself in when she wanted, using the cover story that she was letting the cat back in the house.

But really she was forwarding her calls from creditors to her own number so Finney had no idea how much debt she was in.

So in other words, you agree that she has nothing to do with this case.

You make people leave CM. You drive them away. There is a meaness and coldness in you that pushes people away and makes them cancel their CM accounts. I know a few of them.

Victim cannot tell his side of the story, and the witnesses won't matter because they won't be taken seriously...so, all we have is the word of the officer to go on as that's going to be the only story that is going to matter to those investigating this mess.

just so you can get a feel for how this pig grew up and his influences in life were.  He felt owed...entitled.  Just like mommy.

Isnt this how it works....build up his life and hang him out to dry.  Or is it only ok when the victim is dead...oh and black.  Model citizens when theyre white.

Well supposedly Brown ran. If he did nothing wrong why run? Only the guilty run.

Quoting lady-J-Rock: I think his family should have left and him stay behind. Anytime someone kills another person then runs away we call him a coward not wanting to face the consequences. If he did nothing wrong why run away, only the guilty run.
Quoting Debmomto2girls:

Of course they took off!  Why wouldn't they?  With the way things are going down, I would take off also.  Why should his family be put in harm's way?

This is where I start losing respect for people and their views.

Quoting cassworth:

At Darren Wilson’s house, neighbors say he and his family took off

CRESTWOOD, Mo. — In a neighborhood outside St. Louis, among the red brick ranch-style houses and well-manicured lawns and American flags flying, a house is being watched.

There are dark blue undercover police cars parked outside the house of Darren Wilson, 28, the police officer identified Friday as the man who shot and killed Michael Brown. And at the rear of Wilson’s house, there is also a marked police car sitting in the parking lot of the church.

A neighbor said that police have been here a couple days watching Wilson’s house on Manda Lane in Crestwood, a mostly white city of 11,000 people about 18 miles southwest of mostly black Ferguson.

The officer, who has been placed on administrative leave, left the neighborhood a few days ago.

The neighbor said the family got “spooked and took off pretty quickly before the name was announced.”

According to public records, Wilson, 28, was an honor roll student at St. Charles High School near Ferguson in 9th and 10th grade. His mother died when he was 16.

On Friday afternoon, Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson described Wilson as “a gentle, quiet man” and “a distinguished officer.”

Joe Adlon, 49, who has lived here 40 years, said he knew Wilson. Adlon said he’s “sure” that Wilson didn’t mean to do it.

“Cops go through a lot,” said Adlon, who was watering his grass. “It’s hard to say what was going through this mind.”

Martha Arnoldy, 60, wife of the Crestwood police chief, who lives on the same street as Wilson, said there is an increased police presence in the neighborhood.

“It’s just a concern the thugs that did that stuff in Ferguson will show up here,” Arnoldy said. “Ferguson was a thriving community that had rebuilt itself. There’s a farmers market there on weekends. For this image to be out that Ferguson is a powder keg is not good.”

Arnoldy said that Wilson and his family “are in a safe place.”

No one answers at the door of Wilson’s house. A welcome sign hangs on the door. Behind the house, near the basketball court and swimming pool, there is still laundry hanging on the line.

What does knowing the officer's name accomplish? Will the rioters feel better when someone murders him?

Quoting latashac: I think they released it because they have been getting embarrassed by "Anonymous" on Twitter. They released a bunch of stuff. He should stay gone for a while. But like people say about criminals, would he run away if he did nothing wrong???

So, tit for tat?

I agree his shoplifting does not explain being shot at 8 times. However, brining the offier's mother into it doesn't explain anything either.

The only people who needed to know this were the shooter, his family and the victim's family, IMO-
