Johnesha Perry is only 19 years old. Her son is only a year old. Shortly before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Perry was seen walking out along the Hamilton Street Bridge in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was reportedly pushing her son in a stroller as they walked 52 feet over the river below. According to witnesses, when they got halfway across the bridge, Perry unstrapped the infant from the stroller and tossed him over the side of the bridge. Moments later, she jumped as well.

Police arrived within minutes, and found the infant a little over 2,000 feet downstream. They managed to get him to the river bank, where they performed CPR. Once they revived the infant, an ambulance rushed him to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. He was last listed in critical condition.

Authorities also recovered Perry from the water. She managed to walk out of the river under her own power, with only minor injuries. Perry was taken to the same hospital as her son. According to police, she had stated that she believed it was “her time to go.”

The Lehigh County Sheriff is guarding Perry as she recuperates. She faces attempted homicide charges, as well as counts of reckless endangerment, aggravated assault. She was arraigned at her bedside in the hospital, and is being held on $100,000 bail. She will be moved to prison when she is released from the hospital.

If this woman was or is truly suicidal, she needs help. But taking your baby with you is beyond suicide and should be punished once she's fit to stand trial for it.

She sounds like she had mental health issues. While i feel for those with mental health issues, she should have dropped the child off at a hospital, fire station, police station, rather than try to kill him too. Attempted murder is definitely an appropriate charge.
