Pupil suspended for apparent prank at Pueblo County

A Pueblo County High School student was suspended Wednesday after an apparent Halloween hoax prompted a school lockdown and search of the building by the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office’s SWAT team.

Superintendent Ed Smith said an unidentified female student was seen walking in the hall between morning classes wearing a gas mask and trenchcoat. Another student alerted a teacher, who reported the incident to school administrators.

Smith said the student immediately was taken to the office, where she was questioned by authorities.

In the meantime, the school was placed on lockdown and Smith said the sheriff’s office was called to help investigate the incident.

Members of the sheriff’s SWAT team were training nearby and responded to the school to assist in the search of the building to ensure there wasn’t anything suspicious related to the student’s actions.

Smith said no students were ever in danger.

He said the student told authorities the outfit was part of a Halloween prank.

The school was placed on lockdown and law enforcement was called in as a safety precaution, Smith said.

“Incidents like this cannot be overlooked and must be taken serious,” Smith said. “Our concern is always for the students.”

Smith said the student acted alone in the incident.

The student will remain on suspension until a disciplinary hearing is held, at which time she could be recommended for expulsion, Smith said.

The school board must approve all expulsions.

Good. Student was trying to promote terror. Zero tolerance.

On the same level as Ahmed and his clock fake bomb prank.

Expulsion?? Man, kids better get the damn memo that "pranks" are no longer acceptable. Which I find to be pretty sad, actually.
