First Syrian refugees arrive in New Orleans

he Louisiana State Department has confirmed that 14 Syrian refugees have been placed in Louisiana.

WWL-TV reports, seven Syrian refugees have been resettled in Kenner, while six have been placed in New Orleans with one placed in Baton Rouge, according to a State Department spokesperson.

After the Friday attacks in Paris, France, social media, blogs and word of mouth announced that 10,000 Syrian refugees arrived in New Orleans under the radar and would be placed in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette.

In Sept. 2015, President Obama announced that the United States would take in at least 10,000 Syrian refugees in the upcoming fiscal year, October 1, 2015 - September 30, 2016.

The 10,000 Syrian refugees will be dispersed throughout the United States to 180 cities; some will be placed near relatives in larger cities.

They will receive support from non-government agencies such as Catholic Charities for 90 days, and once they are established they will have to repay their airfare and are free to move around the country.

In an interview with Fox8, former New Orleans FBI chief and anti-terrorism expert Jim Bernazzani says males 18- 45 will face the most scrutiny.

"... the FBI is on top of this big time with our Joint Terrorism Task Force and we have what's called a Terrorist Screening Center that these individuals will be run through... It's going to be the 18- to 45-year-old male for the most part," said Bernazzani.

Saturday Jindal released a letter to the President demanding details on the process of background screening and resettlement tracking for they refugees.

Sen. David Vitter, a candidate in the upcoming La. Governor's election, said Sunday, the effort to continue to let Syrians in the country is outrageous and irresponsible.

"President Obama's plan to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees to the U.S. - just like his statement made a day before the Paris attacks that ISIS was 'contained' -- is outrageous and irresponsible. That's exactly how at least one, maybe more of the Paris terrorists got there.  These Syrians have already started arriving in Louisiana. That needs to stop immediately, and I will continue to lead that fight and protect the people of Louisiana," said Vitter.

"These are just people from another country trying to escape misery by virtue of a civil war," said Bernazzani.

So when do they learn about the laws of the US? I'm serous, do they learn that some of their "cultural" practices might not be legal in the US?

I keep thinking about all the people in and around New Orleans in extreme poverty. How do we bring people in from another country, feed them, give them free medical and a roof over their heads when we're not even bothering to take care of our own?

No, it isn't, at all. But, keep speading misinformation and fear. Not one reputable media source is reporting this.

I edited my post - yes it is true. 14 have arrived. Not 10,000. Yet.

I apologize, I misread. I was a victim of reading the headline because this story has been circulating differently. Again, I apologize.

I agree that it probably will happen. However, the bad guys are already here. The BM bombers had connections to ISIS. I find it extremely hard to believe they acted on their own.
