"I worry very much about kids growing up in a society where they think 'I'm not going to talk about this issue, read this book, or explore this idea because someone may think I'm a terrorist.' That is not the kind of free society I want for our children".

I will post who said this after we get some discussion and votes.

I picked other. Knowledge is power and no subject is inherently bad. But some ppl actually agree with that stuff.

Very true.  We have people who follow the writings and speech of ISIL.  I don't think I would want my child to explore that however I don't think I would stop her.  I think instead, we would have some honest talks about what she is learning.

Maybe.  However, I want people to focus on the words and the meaning behind them rather than who said them.

2 moms liked this

I would rather have my son openly learn about any subject so that he could openly discuss it with us than feel he has to hide or sneak information.  When kids aren't allowed to explore things that interest them, their interest doesn't fade.  They just resort to sneaking around which, in the end, is usually more dangerous and leaves the door wide open to for the wrong people to help them fill in the blanks.

With many fearing terrorists 24/7 and wanting to kill anyone who isn't exactly like them in every way, I think that quote has a lot of truth to it.

I see that 14% disagree but I don't seen any comments that state why they disagree.  Who disagreed and why?

When I was a kid I loved esoteric "forbidden" lore.

Some how I managed not to blow myself up even though I know how to.

I've raised my kids to think for themselves and to question things.
