WASHINGTON (AP) — The former head of President Donald Trump's transition team at the Environmental Protection Agency says he expects the new administration to seek significant budget and staff cuts.

Myron Ebell left the transition team last week. Ebell says in an interview with The Associated Press that his specific proposals to the White House remain confidential.

But asked what he personally would like to see, Ebell replied that slashing the agency workforce by half would be a good start.

Ebell predicts the president may seek to cut about $1 billion from the EPA's $8 billion annual budget. He also says Trump likely will seek significant reductions to the agency's workforce of about 15,000 employees.

The transition staff at EPA has mandated a temporary media blackout and a freeze on contracts and grants.

These media blackouts are the most concerning things I've ever seen.

Yes I think the workforce and budget of most departments in the federal government need to be cut, but the media blackout is very disturbing.

Unless he tackles reducing the social security budget, and tackles the spiraling cost of healthcare, and reduces military expenditure, he's just pissing on the edge of the fire (or is that paying someone else to piss on the edge of the fire for him?).

I LOVE the idea of tidying up the EPA.  It's a world-class producer of red tape.  The minutae this agency trucks with is outrageous.

But it's horrifying to see people who have no understanding and no wish to understand the science and the facts being the ones to decide which regulations stay and which ones go.  Horrifying.

Don't text and drive.

And he is never going to touch those things-

I'm a bit surprised that that is all he is doing regarding the EPA being as the Republicans have wanted to get rid of it altogether for some time. Granted it could be more efficient, etc. On the other hand, he doesn't need to get rid of the EPA, all he needs to do is get rid of the regulations, etc. that the EPA handles, which wouldn't surprise me at all. I hope we don't end up seeing things like Love Canal happening once again.

Tragedies like that will happen again without oversight.
