When a U.S. general frets our government is in 'unbelievable turmoil,' we've got a serious problem

Military leaders aren't known for speaking out about politics, and especially not while they're still in command of U.S. forces. So when a general starts sounding the alarm bells, it's time for Congressional Republicans to wake the f*ck up. Following news of national security advisor Michael Flynn’s resignation, Michael Shear writes:

Gen. Tony Thomas, head of the military’s Special Operations Command, expressed concern about upheaval inside the White House.

“Our government continues to be in unbelievable turmoil. I hope they sort it out soon because we’re a nation at war,” he said at a military conference on Tuesday. Asked about his comments later, General Thomas said in a brief interview, “As a commander, I’m concerned our government be as stable as possible.”

At least someone is concerned about Donald Trump’s mental instability insidiously infecting the entire U.S. government. Meanwhile, most Congressional Republicans are doing everything possible to look the other way.

House Oversight chair Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Flynn: “It’s taking care of itself.”

House Intelligence Committee chair Rep. Devin Nunes on Flynn: “It just seems like there’s a lot of nothing there.”

Seriously, what the f*ck?! We’ve got a general in the field saying, Hey, Washington, you better get it together here because we’re in very dangerous territory.

Republican response? “Look away… nothing to see here.”

Apparently, Paul Ryan’s precious tax plan is more important than the physical safety of our troops—and the national security of our country.
