Black Lives Matter took over the stage at pro-Trump rally, and nobody expected what happened next

A Black Lives Matter group took over the stage from a pro-President Donald Trump rally this weekend, but it is not what you might think.

The group was marching past the pro-Trump “Mother of All Rallies” when one of the men speaking on stage advised that the crowd ignore the Black Lives Matter protesters.

“Don’t give them the spotlight,” the man aid “They don’t exist.”

But then one of the pro-Trump speakers, Tommy Gunn, announced “I’m going to let Black Lives Matter come up here while I show them what patriotism is all about, all right?”

And as another man handed him the microphone he told the crowd “[This rally is] about freedom of speech. It’s about celebration. So what we are gonna do is not something you’re used to, and we’re going to give you two minutes of our platform to put your message out.”

“Now, whether [the pro-Trump crowd agrees] with your message is irrelevant — it’s the fact that you have the right to have the message,” Gunn said.

The group went on stage and the leader, Hawk Newsome, began to speak to the president’s supporters.

“I am an American,” he said to cheers. “And the beauty of America is that when you see something broke in your country, you can mobilize to fix it.”

“You ask why there’s a ‘Black Lives Matter?’ Because you can watch a black man die and be choked to death on television, and nothing happened. We need to address that.”

The crowd did not appreciate that message.

“We are not anti-cop, we are anti-bad cop,” Newsome said.

“We want our God-given right to freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!” he continued.

“All lives matter, right? But when a black life is lost there’s no justice. That’s why we say ‘black lives matter,” Newsome continued.

“What about black on black crime? You don’t care then,” one woman shouted.

“If we really want to make America great, we do it together,” Newsome said to cheers.

Newsome was happy with how everything worked.

“When I spoke truths, they agreed,” he said. “I feel like we made progress. I feel like two sides that never listen to each other actually made progress today.”

“I expected to come down here with my fist in the air in a very militant way, and to exchange insults … if not on a grander level, and just person-to-person, I think we really made some substantial steps without either side yielding anything,” he added.

“I hope that they understand that one of the leaders of the Black Lives Matters movement is a proud American and a Christian who cares deeply about this country,” he continued. “We really are here to help this country move toward a better place, not to destroy it.”

He pointed out that one of the heads of Bikers For Trump told him that he identified with him and asked the man to take a picture with his son. It was something that moved him.

“We came out, we were gonna chant, we were gonna do a demonstration, but we didn’t have to — we just spoke,” Newsome said. “It worked. I’m happy about that.”

Communication and free speech bringing people together.

Maybe I'm just tired but it still sucks that this is something to even feel happy about in 2017.

Peace and understanding as oppose to violence and intolerance is always better.

Understanding the other side's grievances and feelings is always a good start to solving problems.

I saw this!!  AWESOME!!!  It shows people can disagree and be open to the opinions of others without becoming mean and hateful.

Perhaps other groups should take note that simply shouting down people you don't agree with isn't the best method
