Is this a law where you live?

A good idea?

HONOLULU (WTHR) — The mayor of Honolulu has signed a law that bans smoking in cars while children are present.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed the bill on Tuesday.

The bill makes it illegal to smoke in a car with a person under the age of 18.

Hawai'i County also has a law against smoking in a car with occupants under 18, according to Hawaii.gov. Kuaia County forbids smoking in vehicles with kids under 13.

There are 9 states and U.S. territories with similar restrictions, Hawaii News Now reports. Each of those states has a specific age restriction for its ban, starting as young as 8 and as old as 18.

I think it's a shame that a law has to be made. Shouldn't this be common sense?

I had to google to see if it is a law here. Looks like a bill was presented, but was rejected here in IL.

That went into law where I am in July 2008.

No smoking in a vehicle carrying minors under 16.

That's been law here for years...

Sad we have to make laws barring parents from damaging their children's lungs, but there it is...

As a parent with a child who has asthma, I absolutely support such laws.

Wish this were the law back when I was a kid. Breathing in all that second hand smoke as a child have given me a nice long lifetime of respiratory issues.

If it's illegal for kids to smoke, then it should be illegal for them to be forced to breath second hand smoke, since that is equally as bad.

Even as a smoker, I think this is a great idea.

It's not illegal here as far as I know but I think it should be.

My mom wouldn't let my dad smoke in car with us in it or not. She hated that he smoked, hated the smell of it, and didn't try to hide it lol.
