Fox News host mentions non-existent Trump condolence transcript - NY Daily News

There is no transcript of the controversial condolence call President Trump made to the family of a slain soldier — despite a reference to one in an interview with Trump’s daughter-in-law on Friday.

Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt asked Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, about the President’s words during an interview on “Fox & Friends.”

Trump publicly denied telling the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson that he “knew what he signed up for,” which his chief of staff John Kelly later contradicted.

Lara Trump replied that having “read exactly what he said” she was under the impression that the media distorted her father-in-law’s words.

“He said, ‘Your husband went into battle, you know, knowing that he could be injured, knowing that he could be killed, and he still did it because he loved this country, and he did it for the American people,’” Lara Trump said.

“I can’t think of a better way, quite frankly, to express my gratitude to someone than by saying something like that.”

There is no transcript of the call, a White House official told the Daily News.

Trump has faced a volley of criticism after Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.), a longtime family friend of the Johnsons, said Trump was disrespectful with Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, when he called her on Tuesday.

Johnson was one of four Americans killed two weeks ago during an ambush in Niger.

The President denied Wilson’s claims, calling them “fabricated.”

Kelly, whose son was killed in combat in Afghanistan, claimed Thursday that he instructed the President on what to say on the call.

“In his way (he)tried to express that opinion — he’s a brave man, a fallen hero, he knew what he was getting himself in to because he enlisted,” the four-star general said. “He was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be with exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken. “That was the message. That was the message that was transmitted,” he added.

Sanders said today during the press briefing there's no transcript. She's apparently lying (what a surprise!).

Why is the President's daughter in law reading it? Should we expect a Kelly press statement on how stunned and disgusted he is that his boss is sharing sacred call transcripts with his family members?

Trumps and their minions just seem to lie as a natural reaction to any question - go ahead and lie, who'll challenge you?

Just listened and it's not really clear if she is talking about the transcript of General Kelly commenting on what TRUMP said.

It's quite clear in the context of what her next few sentences are, discussing "reading exactly what he said".

IF Laura Trump did read a transcript as along as she had permission there is nothing wrong with it; just as there would have been nothing wrong with Congresswoman Wilson listening to Trump's conversation with the widow Johnson IF (as in IF) Trump knew that he was on speaker phone, and that the congresswoman was present.

If President Trump chooses to allow others to be a part of the conversation that is his prerogative. It could still be keep sacred by keeping it among (only) those involved in the conversation; rather than broadcasting it to the world by publically attacking a president.

Didn't General Kelly say he was stunned and disgusted Rep. Wilson listened to the sacred call? Why would that be inappropriate, but Trump's non-governmental official daughter in law reading it be acceptable? Wilson is a family friend who was in the car. What purpose or business does Lara Trump have reading it?

Did Trump get permission from the widow before showing the transcript (which Sanders claims doesn't exist)? Did he tell the widow the name of everyone listening to the call on his end to clear them with Johnson's widow? I'm guessing no. So why should Mrs. Johnson be expected to?

And isn't Lara Trump now broadcasting it publically too? How is Trump keeping it sacred by sharing it with Lara if she wasn't part of the conversation?
