CNN to Dems: Why Did You Vote to Shut Down the Government?

CNN to Dems: Why Did You Vote to Shut Down the Government?

Democrats insist they don't want the government to shut down this weekend, but their votes don't back up their claims. On Thursday, the House passed a short term spending bill to keep the government funded. Only five Democrats voted yes. It needs 60 votes to pass the Senate, but plenty of Democratic senators have indicated they'll vote against any measure that simply "kicks the can down the road."

CNN anchors - yes CNN - are calling them out on their hypocrisy.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) was pressed about why he voted against the measure. He says he voted against a continuing resolution, not to shut down the government. But, that's not how CNN's Erin Burnett saw it.

Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) later joined Chris Cuomo to tell him that Mitch McConnell had planned to use this vote as political theater "from the get go."

He said he'll be voting against cloture, which puzzled Cuomo.

"Just to make it clear to the audience - you voted yes to proceed because you want to debate this bill - that's what that bill means," Cuomo said. "But you're saying you're going to vote no against it but you're saying you hope the government doesn't shut down...why would you vote no if you don't want the government to shut down?"

House Speaker Paul Ryan has accused Democrats of holding the military hostage over immigration. He and other Republican leaders insist they can still work out a deal on DACA before the March deadline.

Should the government close, the Republican National Committee has already given it a name: the Schumer Shutdown.

The Republicans control Congress and the Whitehouse. Any shutdown is on them.

Why did the president reject a bipartisan bill that had 56 votes and many of the things he wanted after publicly saying he would sign anything they brought him?

Any why won’t spineless Mitch McConnell bring it to a vote?

Why did you use CNN as your source when you and others have insisted for months that they only publish “ fake news” ???
I suppose when they blame Democrats you suddenly trust CNN?
Even when they’re wrong?

Are Republicans high school sophomores? Does everything need to be left to the last minute while they do other things before their homework? First CHIP, now DACA?

Lol at all of those who just parrot what ever the "press" says.

This is is the issue, for the Senate to get ANYTHING passed, they need 60 votes,  There are 54 Republican senators, so 6 Democrat senators have to vote with Republicans to get anything done. Period.  It is how it works.

Since the Dems are an obstructionist party and Pelosi, Schumer and Durban are telling Dems NOT to work with Rebulicans we will very likely have a government shutdown, because a party is more important than doing their JOBS.  I am sick of senators and congressmen getting away with not doing the right thing, not working together, and getting nothing done.

Duban made a huge deal about the word shithole rather doing his JOB, and revising the draft.  That would be too much like work, which Senator Durban seems to allergic to, along with his other senators.

They need 60 votes to just debate the bill. They only need 51 to pass it. Republicans, on their own, only have 48. Even if dems brought it to a vote, the Republicans couldn't pass it.

With the Dems intentionally being obtuse nothing can even come up for a vote.

These senators are deathly allergic to wortk.

Also, Durbin and Graham sent a bipartisan bill to the president that would have resolved all of this and he (Trump) rejected it.

You clearly do not understand how the Government works

(the Senate specifically)
