WASHINGTON, DC - MARCH 19: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), center, speaks to the press with U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD), left, and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) after the weekly Senate Republicans policy luncheon on March 19, 2013 in Washington, DC. The Senate is expected to pass a revised continuing resolution and send their edits back to the House in order to prevent a government shutdown next week, but any action in the Senate may be delayed until later in the week. 1. First shutdown in modern history with one party in control of all branches

2. First shutdown to start on anniversary of inauguration

3. Earliest shutdown ever in a presidency

The GOP is now furiously spinning.  Trump kept repeating how a shutdown will hurt our military.

On the floor of the Senate, just after midnight, Mitch McConnell scolded Democrats by saying:

For America's men and women in uniform, shutting down the government means delayed pay.

I thought McConnell’s hypocrisy reached the apex when he said Dems didn’t want to help “vulnerable children” by supporting children’s health insurance—when it was Mitch himself who allowed CHIP to expire over 120 days ago!!

But I was wrong.

This is the new winner...

If you want to watch the entire video of the exchange, dsnottselliot provided it: Click Here

McCaskill (D-MO): I don’t want one moment to pass with there being any uncertainty of any soldier anywhere in the world that they will be paid for the valiant work they do on behalf of our national security...I ask for immediate consent.

McConnell (R-Turtle): I object.

Even Mitch McConnell doesn’t listen to Mitch McConnell anymore!

If this doesn’t convince you that the GOP is full of BS, nothing will.

The GOP is in charge. They couldn’t even get 50 of their own members to support the continuing resolution. The GOP ended CHIP and DACA. The GOP broke their promises. This is their shutdown.  They own it.  By a 20-point margin, Americans agree.  (Even freaking RedState is pinning this on McConnell.)

Unfortunately, it’s Americans who will suffer. I don’t know what Trump paid that porn star, but we’re the ones getting spanked.

Oh I absolutely agree, he is such a shit stain. He and the rest of the Repubs, and the Trump supporters you mentioned are the worst hypocrites, and I really hope to HELL his ass is voted out! He and SO many more need to be removed.
You just know that the Trumpeters will be in here soon shaking their fists and accusing the rest of us of exactly what they are guilty of themselves. Refusal to accept the TRUTH that the blame is on the shoulders not just on any one party.

Where are the regular conservative supporters? I really want to read their responses here. I wonder if reality about their party is sinking in?

Also, during the Carter administration there was a shutdown when Dems were in total control, so #1 is wrong. Keep plugging this crap. The dems own this one!

Democrat lies.

McConnell did not say, "NO" ... as in END of discussion.

I think the issue is that McConnell's promises seem hollow. And he's said he can't give any deal until he knows what the president wants, but the president isn't his boss--the American people are. That, coupled with him not following through with previous promises, makes the "promises" look like transparent ploys.

The Republicans have framed this as a Democratic shutdown, but Democrats are the ones conceding on once-firm stances, and they're still being rejected.

DACA wasn't really a budgetary issue until Trump stepped in to shut it down. He's forced it to become one with Democrats, and that's why we are where we are.

I don't think Trump wants a shutdown--he is a man of optics--but I don't think he sees it as a necessarily bad thing either.
