New York States Proposed tax increases, new taxes, user fees and higher user fees.

Posted by   + Show Post

I don't know how many of you are feeling overly taxed as it is but this is like puring salt into open wounds. All of these increases and new taxes proposed will be the burden of the working class family. All the while the Governor is giving a 10% increase to Welfare Benefits. Where's the justice? I say it's time for a tax payer revolt.

I don't know about anyone else but my property taxes are staggering. I can't afford anymore. My family already goes without insurance as it is. This month I get to choose my 300 dollar gas bill or that of my daughters pain pills which are more than my gas bill. 12 pain pills are over 300 dollars. I can't take it anymore. Time for another Boston Tea Party. REVOLT REVOLT REVOLT!

With a tax on cable tv, your $80 dollar monthly bill will go up to $83.20.

A trip to the movies for a family of four will go from $29 dollars to $30.16 because now, it's taxed.

And for a men's and women's haircut, you'll spend around $50 dollars for both. With the new tax, add an extra two dollars.

If you buy $1.00 Pepsi from a vending machine once a week, it adds up to an extra 72 cents per month.

Virtually any trip to the DMV will be more expensive. The cost to renew your license will go from $50 to $62.50.

New licence plate was $15 and now will be $25.

Car registration will go from $44 to $55.

All the costs at state parks will go up from camping to golf.

If you fish, you may need a new marine fishing license. It will increase from $19 dollars.

Fish for trout or salmon, now you need a stamp that will cost an extra 10 bucks.

And when it comes time to do your taxes, if you submit on paper, not online, it will cost you an extra $10.

So, for the year, we added up all the things we mentioned above and it will cost $157.46 cents more in 2009.

There 137 new taxes or increased fees. Here are some of the highlights:

No more exemptions from sales tax on clothing and shoes under $110 dollars.

Haircuts, manicures, pedicures, massages, gym memberships will be subject to sales tax (4% state).

Movie tickets, concerts, sporting events, amusement parks, circus tickets, and other entertainment related expenses will be subject to sales tax (4% state).

Taxis, limos, buses, will be subject to sales tax (4% state).

Cable and satellite television will be subject to sales tax (4% state).

Store coupons will now be taxed, the same as manufacturer coupons. For example, if you have a manufacturer coupon, right now, you pay tax on the full amount, although you pay a discounted price. However, if you are at Wegmans and the product you want is cheaper with your Shopper's Club Card, you will now be taxed on the full amount, although you pay a discounted price.

Luxury goods will incur a 5% tax. Cars (over $60,000), jewelry and furs (over $20,000), Boats/yachts (over $200,000) and non-commercial aircrafts (over $500,000).

Sales tax will be charged on downloads of music and movies from the internet.

The tax on beer and wine will increase. Wine would increase from 18.9 cents per gallon to 51 cents per gallon. Beer tax would increase from 11 cents per gallon to 24 cents per gallon.

The tax on rental cars would go from 5% to 6%.

The average vehicle registration fee would go from $44 to $55.

To renew your driver's license (every 8 years) would go from $50 to $62.50.

The fee to reissue license plates would go from $15 to $25.

Establishes new marine fishing licence for $19.

Establishes a trout and salmon stamp for $10- you must have a stamp to fish for trout or salmon.

State parks fees would increase and this varies from park to park. However, the fee for an Empire Passport (unlimited entry to all parks) would increase from $59 to $65. Camping fees would increase from $13 to $15. Weekend Surcharges would go from $3 to $4. Cabin rentals would increase about 15%, golf prices would also increase about 15% and marina fees would increase about 25%.

If you are a New York State licensed notary public, barber, cosmetologist, real estate agent, the fee to take you license exam will increase.

The fee on car insurance policies will increase from $5 to $10.

A new 18% tax on soft drinks that are NOT diet.

A nickel deposit is added to beverages in plastic/glass bottles that currently do not have a deposit (like bottled water).

Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco (R) released numbers saying Governor Paterson's 2009-10 Executive Budget will cost the average New York family an extra $3,875.48 annually.

I take offense to your first question in your second paragraph. If I'm reading it right. You are referring to race. Why even bring that up? No one else has and I for one am sick and tired of race being thrown into everything. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin or his nationality. I personally could care less. I realise you were not addressing me personally. But I for one at the risk of repeating myself, am sick and tired of race being brought into everything. Leave that somewhere else. People need to quit throwing the race card out there it does not help, matter of fact it only makes matters worse and IMO purposely separates an individual by their color. Why do that?

As for this not being Obamas fault. Well I guess in a trickle down way it eventually will be, but that is a completely different subject matter.

I did not vote for Obama. That does not mean I hope he don't do well and try and turn around this huge economic crisis while he's in office. There have been a hand full of presidents while they were office who could have turned this around and never did. This goes back to the days of Reagan, our economic crisis that is. NAFTA was Reagan's Brain Child. Clinton signed it into law and Bush never did anything about it. Lets not forget to address Clinton's everyone should be able to own a home BS. That is not true. If you can't afford it and your credit sucks NO YOU SHOULD NOT OWN A HOME. Clinton also made that possible by signing these predatory lending loans into office. Which in turn caused this housing crisis. Of course as a bank, they should never have offered these loans, but Clinton allowed it. And once again Bush did nothing about it. It is my opinion that Bush inherited one hell of a mess and did nothing to try and thwart it off.

Without a foundation to build anything on, that meaning no industry (NAFTA) what the hell is our economy going to do? It's going to tank like it already has. But go ahead and keep sending our jobs over seas all so these big wig corporations can make a dollar. Keep importing cheap goods without taxing them. This is the end result.

Oh and you just have to love the commercial Buy American and save a job. I ask you what is made in America anymore? Not one single car is 100% made in America these days. Maybe 60% of it is, but the other 40% was manufactured elsewhere.

Oh by the way I have a clue. I've had it for quite some time.

As for not complaining and organizing. It's already happening here locally and I will be there with bells on. Enough is enough!

Hmmm I wonder if Mccain was in office and proposed the same shyt but a different color would you all have bitched then? Probably not, you all would have probably found something to hope on. Hell with it, it could have been anyone in office right now. What is so hard to understand that shyt will get ugly before it gets better. I know its hard to see that idea after the bs we had encounter from our last president but hey you all can always just FIRE Obama anyways.

The bad part about the welfare issues is they don't have a choice but to add more to it because of the amount of people now in need of it. The welfare system was already struggling back in august and it just got smacked.

I totally agree with the shyt of all the unnecessary spending, and sad to say what politician doesn't spend on bs? And i find it annoying cause everyone complains that Wall Street handed out raises blah blah blah yet back at the ranch as they say here he was handing out raises and cutting back in depts that DO NOT need cut backs. Its so annoying!

The Governor was just here in Niagara Falls yesterday and told people who have been waiting for their tax returns it should only be a couple of weeks longer. If we are as broke as he says we are, why are they doling out raises? Why are they buying new rugs at the cost of over 20,000, a new toaster for 200. The list of unecessary spening is endless. His reply to that was, the list was there before he took office. So what if it was there? It does not mean that you need those things.

When asked about Welfare and why more than half of our State Bugdet goes to that he skirted the question and went to Fraud being weened out already.

Our roads and bridges are in dire need of repair.  Where are the tax dollars we pay for upkeep to those very roads and bridges going?

You are wayy off, I was not referring to race at all. I would like to see where you got that from? Cause I did not mention race or any racial issues.

I guess to you that sentence made some sense but I had a hard time deciphering it.  That is why I said "IF". I'm well aware you quoted her. That's why I said I knew you were addressing someone else. And as for reading and comprehending I can do that very well thank you.  That sentence could have been misconstrued in any number of different ways. The only thing I will apologize for is assuming on the race issue.

There is also no need to be defensive. Discuss if you wish to do so. But lets do it civilized.

And as for the "bs that the Bush administration left behind". Go back even further and do some research you will see that he in fact inherited the mess. That does not imply that I think Bush was a good president. It's just saying he inherited it. Research and educate is all I am saying.

Now maybe there is a need more than ever. But lets face facts. Welfare has been a HUGE burden for tax payers in NYS for many years. Long before the economic crisis. NYS is the "cadillac"  of Welfare programs. Rules need to be established and adhered to. Residency being the first rule that should be implemented. Along with mandatory drug testing and time limits. Welfare should not be a way of life, but a temporary solution. Welfare is generational here and it needs to end.

And does two wrongs make a right? I don't think so. Just because people "back at the ranch" spend needlessly that does not give wall street the right to do so either and vise versa.

The problem people are having the with the wall street bail out is it's not working. Not when you hand AIG and GM billions and no restructuring is going on. It's business as usual.

Yet they expect the tax payers to bail them out time and time again. One has to ask when is enough , enough?  If they want hand outs we want accountability. That goes for government as well.

And i find it annoying cause everyone complains that Wall Street handed out raises blah blah blah yet back at the ranch as they say here he was handing out raises and cutting back in depts that DO NOT need cut backs. Its so annoying!

I posted this so people could see how ludacris our state goverment is. To see the ridiculous taxes ,user fees and such that he is proposing. An 18% tax on all NON DIET drinks? Come on now? A new tax on haircuts, manis and pedis? Tell me this don't sound ridiculous to anyone else.

The Governor was just here in Niagara Falls yesterday and told people who have been waiting for their tax returns it should only be a couple of weeks longer. They had to do cut backs within that department. That blew my mind. Mostly because he just gave many many people raises within his governmental offices. Yet he had to cut back in  the tax department.

I'm very well aware of that and have said so in my replies to your replies.

i know my politics i know that clintion left him a pretty big mess as well, never said he didnt, but what did bush do to clean it up? nothing! He left it there and just added to it. ::shrugs:: Bush is just as guilty.

Quoting Wyldbutterfly:

Quoting Da1nOnlyDestiny:

You are wayy off, I was not referring to race at all. I would like to see where you got that from? Cause I did not mention race or any racial issues.

EDIT: i am guessing you think i am saying Mccain vs Obama , White vs Black. LMAO Umm no  I was strictly referring to their point of views and how they would have handled the bs that the Bush admin has left behind.

EDIT AGAIN! : Jesus do people read replies completely, everything you commented on in the last to paragraphs was not even directed to you! I was talking to "Eilish" hence why I QUOTED her.

Quoting Wyldbutterfly:

Quoting Da1nOnlyDestiny:

Again like i said considering all these actions were already in the works before Obama took office your comments mean nothing cause you just want to whine. Obama is a monster! He is a socialist! THE WORLD IS ENDING OMG!

So instead of complaining and bsing on here you should be writing to your government and rounding up your peers and plan protests! And boycott taxes.. oh wait you are a SAHM nevermind you have your hands full already. It is easier to just jump on the pc and complain.

Quoting Eilish:

True, NY WAS in deep shit before Obama took office BUT our national debt has been climbing for quite some time, and Obama is making it worse.

Common sense (dollars and cents that is) would tell you that!

Perhaps it is you who needs to be educated before you comment.

Quoting Da1nOnlyDestiny:

you really have no common sense at all do you? nys was in deep shyt before Obama even did anything and Patterson had warned about this shyt since the summer. EDUCATE yourself first before you comment for heaven's sake.

Quoting Eilish:

Quoting Da1nOnlyDestiny:

this is new york state's doing not the president!

Perhaps not the direct action of the president, but State taxes DO pay for the federal government and Obama's new "budget" (if you want to call it a budget) will be charging the shit out of the states.

There was a time limit of five years. Yet our representatives bulked at that and it's not enforced. And IMO five years is too long.

Quoting Da1nOnlyDestiny:

I know, I totally can agree with your point of view. Now, I can say this for the most part; some counties do indeed do drug testing, and they have time limits *actually i think the time limit is state wide i would have to double check*
