Sonograms, ‘child porn’

Depending on the situation, there is excitement surrounding a woman finding out that she is with child. A sonogram, or picture of the fetus, is taken when a pregnant woman has her first visit to the doctor. These pictures are usually found on the refrigerator of a house, framed on a desk in an office or more commonly posted on a personal profile on the Internet. These practices have become a norm when finding out that your family is expecting a new addition. Pregnant women in North Dakota may now not be able to celebrate and show off their unborn baby the way society has traditionally accepted.
The North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill that states a picture of a fertilized egg is now considered child pornography. It is now going to the North Dakota Senate to be voted on. This bill, if passed, will make it possible for women and men who have a sonogram as their profile picture on Facebook to be arrested and put on a sex offender registry list. This law stems from the one that was recently passed declaring that a fertilized egg now has full human rights. Sen. Dan Ruby, R.- Minot, passed both laws and has been very vocal in trying to pass laws that ban abortion. There is also an extension of these laws that would create more worry for women besides illegal abortions. There may be a clause in the bill that would rule women who have miscarriages as criminally negligent.
These laws have been made with out being thought completely through about how they will affect the women of North Dakota. Besides taking away their freedom of choice, they are punishing them for something they cannot even control. Women do not wish for miscarriages, and many are emotionally distressed when they have one. Adding criminal charges to their upset is completely ridiculous. Trying to make a sonogram classified as child porn is creating something out of nothing. All this law will do is put innocent, proud parents who are expecting on a sex offender list with those who molest children and rape innocent people. This is opening a can of worms bigger than they expect: All science books would have to be changed because of pictures of unborn children pictured to teach biology, genetics and health.
All these ridiculous laws are being made to do is eventually ban abortion in the state. The lawmakers know it would probably be harder to pass a law completely banning abortion in one all inclusive bill, so instead they are doing it in a step-by-step process. These laws are creating a slippery slope because of how they are doing things. Other states that share the same opinions may start doing the same process of a step-by-step ban on things. The lawmakers should seriously consider exactly what they are banning and exactly who they are going to put criminal charges on. These laws are slowly taking away the joy of having a baby, and should not be allowed to pass in doing so.

Sounds like some government peole have TOO much time on their hands and need to pass something...

Its absurd and I can't imagine will get laughed out of Supreme Court if it was challenged

BUT the part I can't imagine is this sentence "There may be a clause in the bill that would rule women who have miscarriages as criminally negligent"  what a horrible thing to do and do they think women want to miscarry...

Wow! This bill MUST be shot down!

As someone whose been through a couple miscarriages and still holds her breath at current OB appointments until I hear that heartbeat, that clause disgusts me. I hope that is not true.

Ladies --

On February 19, 2009, the North Dakota House of Representatives passed a bill granting a fertilized human egg the legal rights of a human being.  It is now before the North Dakota Senate to pass it or not.

The original blog suggesting that ND had passed a bill that sonograms are child porn was SATIRE.    It was a blog posted in the Anorak.  Please check out this website:   This is a British website that makes fun of celebrities and stupid news.  The author of the blog obviously thinks the bill is stupid and wrote a blog satiring that ND had passed a bill that sonograms would be considered child porn.  Again, SATIRE.

The author of the article (featured in this OP) was suckered in by this blog.  He admits it here:

45. It's pretty clear that my original source got sucked in
and then pulled me in. I found my link on a listserve of attorneys and psychologists involved in sex offender cases. They all obviously took it for Gospel too.

What we all need to be concerned about is that a bill did pass granting a fertilized egg the rights of a human being.  It's just asinine.

this is so ridiculous I find it hard to believe. This is what they're wasting their time on? We have other serious problems that need attention. I'm disgusted.
