I was laid off last month due to the economy, now my husband just called and said that they are cutting his hours too.. this recession is really starting to hit too close to home! I start the new semester May 18th for my RN, hopefully my hubby can hang in there till I at least finish my degree....

Sorry you're going through a tough time. I hope you're able to finish your education. Good luck!
Thanks ladies! I am just worried that they're going to start laying people off at his job, then he will be first to go since he doesn't have seniority because we just moved here in June! Its scary thinking we might not be able to pay our mortgage...

Sorry Mandy you & your husband are experiencing this....my husband's hrs. were cut considerably prior to Christmas '08. We may not agree politically but losing one's job can be devastating. My dh & I have made sacrifices accordingly. I have a sister who is an RN...30 yrs. now. She is @ a Hospital in Portland, Oregon but during her nursing caeer she has worked @ various Hospitals around the Country....primarily in ER.

Thank you for your concern. I truly believe that it is Gods way of sending us in a different path. My husband has been in the Casino business for 22 years, and he is ready for a change. I wanted to get my RN done sooner, but because we needed both of our incomes to make ends meet I kept pushing it off.. well then I got laid off. I just took it as a sign. I am concerned now that they may lay off my husband as well, but it isnt so bad here that there isnt jobs. Im sure he should be able to find something reasonable for the meanwhile if all else fails. Our Governer helped to create new jobs to our state with the film industry, the railroad, and government jobs. I just have to keep faith that everything will be fine. If all else fails, Ill just have to take out student loans to make ends meet. My main concern is that I dont want to loose our home.
Nursing is a wonderful field. I worked as a lab tech for several years, and loved it. It just didnt pay quite as much as a Casino Dealer, so thats what my husband and me have been doing. I cant wait to work in in the medical field again. Traveling Nurses seem like they have it made. I might just try that when my kids are older..

i feel your pain. I have been laid off going on a year with a degree and its hard to find work and there is no husband just me my kid, my house and car. This recession sucks
I am sorry for your stress. There aren't many people that this economy is not effecting. My dh lost 25% of his income as of last November. He has applied at the jobs that ARE available, but so far no luck.
I myself am an RN. My job is pretty secure, I have been employed for 8 years. There is always a hospital or clinic needing a nurse. If you are english/spanish bilingual, your job opportunities are awesome.
I hope you can keep your house. I hope that if you need some sort of government assistance, I hope you qualify and can get the help you need. It seems like the middle class doesn't qualify for squat, and THAT is the reason I get mad about welfare. It isn't there for the middle class when they need it.
I pray that things start getting better soon. Too many good people are paying the price for some stupid, irresponsible people in power. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear about that... I just got laid off a couple of weeks ago myself... As being a single mom of an 11-year-old son, it was hard to have to sit Kory down & tell him that Mom no longer has a job... I've already filed for unemployment & have a severance package coming to me on May 1st. I have at least 1 more paycheck, but it's only for 19 hours (our department kept running out of work, so we were off for 2 days), & what incentive I earned for last month... It's not a full paycheck, but every little bit helps... I'm also fortunate to still have some of my income tax refund in savings, so that helps too. If worse came to worse, I would have to find new homes for our pets (1 cat & 1 dog) if we had to move. I'm hoping to find something by May 1st, but if not, then at least by the summer...
For those who are in the same situation, I hope for the better, & that we're able to find something soon...
Michelle
