Every mom of boys has to decide: to circumcise or not to circumcise? Some say it's genital mutilation. Others say that circumcision has health benefits and that there are valid cultural reasons for the practice.
What do you say?
To each is their own, but from my personal experience of actually being present and witnessing several of them, I would never do it to my son.. but thats just me..

I agree with the to each his own, but my son is circ'ed - had it done when he was about 8 months old and he has done beautifully since. Our situation is a little different than most, but even if he didnt have all the issues he has, I still would have done it.
I circ'ed my son to make his dad happy, but when I explained to him (my son) what was done, he was horrified and told me he wished we hadn't done that to him.
So that's some food for thought ...
I think it's irresponsible not to have your son circumcised. IMO... I've explained in other post like this that my dad has had a lot of problems...he wasn't done because my grandparents didn't have insurance when he was born and couldn't afford to pay to have it done..so he had to have it done when he was twenties because he has had so many problems from it. Well a few months ago they discovered he had a mass amount of scar tissue from all the u.t.i's he had in the past (they went away after he got it snipped) in his bladder and now they are testing him for cancer.... Had he had it done when he was born he wouldnt have this problem. There are plenty of reasons to have it done and not one good reason not to have it done.
well yeah if someone told me someone cut my wiener (if I had one) I would be horrified too! But obviously if you had to tell him...he didn't remember and I'm sure later on in life he will be glad he is.

This occurance is actually rare.. as long as you teach your son proper hygene, the majority of the men never have problems. I dont think men were designed a certain way to HAVE to get skin removed as a baby. Most people do it for religious, or appearance reasons..

i have heard that there is a difference in a hospital circumcision and one they do in a traditional Jewish ceremony. from what i have heard when its done in the Jewish ceremony they take a lot less off.
Circumcision is not medically necessary.
This is why Medicaid is stopping coverage of the procedure:
Circumcision, a procedure dating back about 4,000 years, became popular in the mid-1800s, when it was thought to promote better hygiene and deter masturbation.
It was once nearly universal in the United States but began to decrease in popularity after the American Academy of Pediatrics declared in 1971 that it held no health benefits.
Nationwide, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, about 60 percent of baby boys undergo the procedure, which some doctors consider unsafe and anti-circumcision activists consider an emotionally damaging mutilation.
Its advocates, however, say that it's a prudent hygiene measure that reduces the risk of urinary-tract infection.
Four years ago the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended against routine circumcision because the potential medical benefits, including a decreased risk of urinary-track infections and penile cancer, were not significant.
Ok, I had to LOL about the masturbation prevention...
Medicaid not paying for it, indicates to me that it is ELECTIVE surgery, like the lap band, breast reduction (for most parts), contact lenses and anything else. I'm actually glad Medicaid won't cover the procedure.
I have no regrets about my personal decision that I made when my son was a day old.
He's grateful too.
It doesn't effect my parenting skills, he can masturbate easier, it's more attractive and clean, as most boys do not want their momma's following them around when it's time for a scrubby.
I also think that next to breastfeeding, this is one of the most over done topics and we should just kill the dead, circ'd or not, horse.
