Hot Topic (5/6): Is it okay to be nude around your kids?

Posted by on May. 6, 2009 at 12:08 AM

On "The View" yesterday, the ladies were discussing whether it's okay for children to see their parents naked.

Should moms always cover up?  What about dads?

Is parental nudity okay until a child reaches a certain age?  Or always or never?

What do you think?

Caution      Do Not Enter    Door Soaking I think for children and their same sex parent, it's fine to get dressed in front of your child. There's nothing to be ashamed of in my opinon. But if it's the opposite sex parent and a child, I believe it's best to practice modesty, out of respect.  I personally don't see any need for a parent to walk around the house naked, in front of children, such as walking down the hallway to the bathroom to take a shower.  In those circumstances I think it's a good idea to put on a bath robe. This is good modeling, in my opinion. I wouldn't want my kids, especially teenagers to parade around the house naked, so why should I.

I now my daughter has seen me in the buff more times than I can count but I ask her to covor now and have since about nine yrs old she would just wear long shirts an panties to bed and I noticed she was blooming.Dad has always wore shorts and don't recall any slips.Iwant my daughter to be comfotable with her body she was sexually abused young and I personally know how this affect your outlook on your body. She seems very comfotable and I am glad. I think ifits girls than moms should not make big deal if they see you in the buff and if its boys  dads the same.Ibelieve the will respect there selves more if there happy and comfortable with what they have I think if not they will search for someone to tell them that there body is ok.

We did until they were about 2.5 and they started to show awareness that our bodies were different.  I treat my body with modesty and I teach them to also consider their body sacred (not for public view).

My DD is 2 1/2 and i think we are getting to the point where daddy isn't comfortable with her seeing his boy parts.

Personally nudity isn't a big deal for me. I do walk around nude sometimes when she is home. and spend most of the time in just panties and a shirt. I pee and shower with the door open. eh just not a big deal for me. Of course i don't do these things when people are over tho lol. I want to teach her our body are not something everyone needs to see but we don't need to feel ashamed of it.

I think for a child of the same sex its fine, but when its the opposite sex, I think once the child is old enough to get curious it's probably time to cover up at least in underwear. My husband will not let our 3 year old daughter see him naked, probably since she was about 2 and started getting mesmerized by his penis. lol

That's how it is at our house. Of course, she is not taking the nudity lesson well. She will walk around all day naked if I'd let her. As it is, she spends most of her time inside in her panties occassionally throwing on a princess dress that comes off in about 5 minutes. lol

until a certain point it is ok however my son is 15 mo and he is noticing things so even though it is just me, i have to learn how to get dressed and shower when he is not around because he knows that mommy doesnt have the same parts.
