While on the campaign trail, President Obama has said that as a Christian, he opposes same-sex marriage.  However, he admits to being a  “fierce advocate of equality” for gay men and lesbians.

But, as more states legalize gay marriage, what do you think the President's stance on this hot button issue will be?

Well of course he's gonna flip-flop. I would be surprised if he didn't.

Just because Obama does not agree with homosexuality does not mean he should force his view on the nation.  Allowing gays to marry will not effect my life in any way, it will not null my marriage, increase my taxes, or make me teach my children to be gay. Homosexuality has been in the human condition all through history, it is not something new. I would be againstit only if it put some hardship on someone else, but it does not.  And not allowing them to marry will not stop them from being gay, so why bother.  Through history after a group of people have fought hard for rights, generations later could not comprehend how rights were denied to those people (slavery, black vote, suffrage) I believe so too will be gay marriage.

I never heard him say that he was opposed to it.  In fact, I heard him say that he would make no federal law banning it and would leave it up to the states.   It would be nice to see the country as a whole recognize it - as some benefits can only be gained that way, I think.  (Social security, etc.)

Peace,

Kat

Yep. His views like always, will depend on who he's trying to curry favor with at the time he's asked.

I personally would like to see him come out strong for equality and take a pro gay marriage stance but due to political pressure (especially from the religious community) I doubt he will. He will leave it up to individual states. As states have slowly begin to fall in line with equality I believe that eventually, gay marriage will be legal everywhere (with the possible exception of the Bible belt) but that it will take time. It took time for slavery to be abolished, for women to have the right to vote and for segregation to end so I do believe marriage equality (as well as adoption rights) will be granted to the GLBT community

As an earlier poster said, allowing gay marriage does not null straight marriages. It does not harm or even affect anyone except for the couple that has the marriage and their families. It is absolutely one hundred percent the same as a heterosexual marriage.

Of course he will. His left wingers who got him elected will push and push until there is nothing sacred anymore. He has flip flopped on just about everything else.

Thank you. Not that I'm against gay marriage, I couldn't care less. But the man is the most wishy~washy person I've ever had the displeasure to call a president.

Good point - I've never heard him say that he was opposed to it either.  But, it seems gay rights activists are getting a bit impatient with his current non-stance on it. So maybe he will say something publicly soon.

I THINK IT'S O.K. TO "FLIP FLOP" IF THE MAJORITY WANT IT. ISN'T THAT WHAT DEMOCRACY IS ABOUT?
