From the Huffington Post:

Last week, Save the Children Ambassador Jennifer Garner and [Mark Shriver] lobbied DC decision-makers, including more than a dozen members of Congress, to support an additional $2 billion in federal funding for private and public early-childhood-education programs.

Do you support government funding of preschool programs?  Do you think preschool is necessary?  Why or why not?

Do you support government funding of preschool programs?

Of course not! They have crippled the public education system, why on earth would I let them start jacking up my 4 year old?

Do you think preschool is necessary?

Yes ... if the teacher is the parent.

Why or why not?

teaching pre-reading helps develop the necessary skill for learning, but it needs to be on an individual-basis where the parent has constant interaction. Preschool teachers can't provide that.

No I do not support government pre-school.

Do you think preschool is necessary?

In some cases yes I do.  But not for educational reasons.  I believe kids sometimes need to be in a class to be with other kids and learn to socialize.  I personally feel that we push our kids to learn their alphabet and learn to read and do math at an earlier and earlier age.  I believe if we took some of that effort and worked on socialization in Pre-school we will see a drop in bullying. Sure it is great that at some point we may have babies that will emerge from the wom able to perform calculus and reading Moby Dick, but what does that matter if thay can not relate or get along wiht other people?

My oldest did not go to pre-school because I felt he dd not need it.  My next 2 kids did because they had problems leaving mom and needed to be with other kids.

I can't say that I do.  I don't support the govt. hand in anything that has to do with our kids' education, because quite frankly, I don't trust the govt.  Generations and generations of lies and agenda.... (shudder)

Do you think preschool is necessary?  Why or why not?

I don't.  Really, they're going to learn more from mom and dad than they are from a preschool program.  And when they get into kindergarten, they start over with the reading and the numbers and all anyway.  Seems like if the kids already know what their kindergarten teacher is teaching them, they may get bored...

I did not want to send my kids to preschool.  I wanted them with me.  I would have missed them, sending them into the system so young.  They learned so much more from me and thier dad than any preschool could have taught them.  They already had more of a headstart into thier subjects than they would have gotten if I hadn't kept them home.

Take a little time at home with them to teach them a few things and then they don't need preschool anyway.  I spent a half hour a day for 10 days with my oldest son and he didn't learn anything new in school till he was half way through 2nd grade.  I found a little time with them and they don't need it.  Why mess them up sooner then you have too anyway.  You know when I refused to send mine to preschool or kindergarten the school district offered me everything except to teach them if I would send them.  Lol, why bother?

Agree, preschool helps a child to socialize with other children.  It's a must for an only child who needs to interact with other children and learn to share :)  Both my kids went to preschool and are better for it!!  Daughter is graduating top 10 in her class...SO PROUD!!!

I don't know about "public preschool" but I do know that the earlier children begin the learning process the better- they don't start kindergarten until AFTER the most absorbent, fastest learning years of their lives. The rate at which they are making connections, learning and absorbing information will never again be as high as it is from birth to five= therefore it would seem logical that children be getting some form of educational value during that time. I choose to do so at home, through books, and various lessons and projects- but ultimately I think kids should be given as much advantage and preparation as possible, and the sooner the better.

I said yes only because here in NYC by the 1st grade they want these kids performing at a unusual rate. Without preschool the child will have trouble keeping up.

I say it depends on the child. Learning to me has always begun at home. My son did not attend Pre-School but my daughter did. She needed to go, not to learn how to socialize so much, but because she needed to know how to go to school and not cry for her Mommy.

Although even after preschool she still wasn't ready for kindergarden. She cried until she vomited, crying for me. It was crazy and I felt extremely bad for her and her Kindergarden teacher. It took her two weeks to adjust.

As far as the Government having a hand in it. NO WAY! They have destroyed the public education system, driven up school taxes and took the "power" out of the parents hands. I think they want to create "minature" drones.

Absolutely unnecessary.

Whether you think Pre-school is necessary is a personal choice..  I think it's a good thing, my older son went and my youngest goes now.  Funding going towards schools at all sounds good to me, especially when I see the lack of it around here.
