I haven't read all the replies yet, but after reading a few, I think I should add this in.
This bill was made in 2006, under President Bush.
We're supposed to be a free country right? And be able to make our decisions right? I mean, that's what America was founded on. Why are they taking away all of our rights? If we were a free country, we wouldn't be forced to join the military. We are turning into a police state.

Consindering our president has not served a day of military, I would not woory too much.

Check out Jacob's jouney on my home page!
I think it's a great idea. Everyone wants freedom but not many are willing to put their lives on the line for it. Maybe they would appreciate our Country more if they had mandatory service- maybe like two years.

I find it ironic that the political Left had spent so much time fear-mongering about George W. Bush possibly bringing back the draft (something he made clear he had no intention of doing), then it is the Democrats who actually try to do it.
I do believe Obama intends to strip away our freedoms and subject us to his decisions and beliefs as much as he possibly can. Don't worry, however. You may be allowed few other choices, but you'll still have the right to opt to kill your unborn child up to and even during birth.

Did you even look at the link? This was from 2006- when Bush was in office, not Obama. Nice of you to place balme on him though... *rolls eyes*. I don't see Obama stripping away anyone's rights, that's all in the imagination of the paranoid IMO.
I'm confused....if this was drafted in 02/06 why is it a concern today? Is it something that the government now is thinking of passing or was it just one of a billion things they try to pass that didn't get passed in 2006?
If I understood it correctly it was also stating that your 2yrs could also be national or community service too. IDK maybe I'm still not understanding. I know that I have heard several people talk about having some sort of 2 yr military experience. Not necessarily on the front lines but some type of service. I'm either way. Doesn't matter to me b/c at the end of each Presidents term the next guy will change everything anyway.

Very true!

Obama's marbles are mixed up! When a person espouses such a lack of respect for the most most vulnerable of human beings...that person certainly will never be sensitive to the needs of others or express any real compassion toward anyone! Cold heart!

IHartU.....this may appy to your judgment! Socialism will accomplish just that. Our personal Constitutional rights will diminsh under Barack Obama. A new America filled w/ hope & change....certainly not the hope & change millions of Americans are contemplating by any means~ Dejavu!
“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism, but under the name Liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program until America will one day be a Socialist nation without knowing how it happened.”

HR 4752 introduced in the 109th Congress by a Democrat with no co-sponsors never became law and is now dead. (We are currently in the 111th Congress.)

I would just like to point out that ex-Pres. Bush was also for national service. Quoting George W. Bush in his 2002 State of the Union Address:
"My call tonight is for every American to commit at least two years -- 4,000 hours over the rest of your lifetime -- to the service of your neighbors and your nation."
