We gonna have us a good ol fashioned BOOK BURNING!

A Petition to.... burn books?

Here's the book in question

To be fair, I'm biased against those who are circulating the petition.  I am against banning books in general, and I absolutely fell in love with Francesca Lia Block when I was a teen.

The use of the N word (cited in the article) was used for historical accuracy, and the people using it portrayed negatively.  The alleged sex acts were generally vague and I think the thing that really bugged these people was the fact that gays were portrayed in a positive, human light.  Baby Be-Bop, like all of Ms Block's books, is mainly about Love.

Frankly, if you don't want your kids exposed to it, pay attention to what they are reading.  Don't ask for a nazi-reminicent attack on free speech.

I think you right about that.  I mean, I do not agree with the gay lifestyle, but who really cares about a book, that a child might or might not read.

If I don't agree with a issue, I make sure I am paying attention to what my children read and watch!

Also, I don't like burning books, I hated it when they try to burn Bibles, and Harry Potter books, etc!  If you don't like it, don't read it!  Don't offer it in your book store, and you "can" keep tabs on your kids and what they are reading!, It's not an invasion of privacy to check up on your kids!

Ridiculous. No one is being forced to read anything. Even when a school assigns a book, there is the opportunity for parents who have a problem with the book to choose an alternative.

Peoople wanting the petition are only trying to control more than they ought.

I agree that parents are able to censor their children, and 'avoid without malice' books, movies or lifestyles that they do not agree with.

Book burning is also wrong on so many levels!!!

This probably is a vague sweeping statement but... I find it ironic that it is most often someone on the far right of the isle that is constantly worrying about 'big' government taking over corporations, 'redistributing wealth', national health care, and screaming about socialism and communism is the same one who is wanting a book burned.  The true loss of freedom does not happen when government controls health care, but when it controls freedom of thought and the written word.  If you don't like a book, don't read it, but leave it on the shelf for someone who does.

life has many sides not just two . how do we know all the things in this world . i have no problem with gays  . love books think you learn from reading . just because i am not gay i do not take a stand against gays . they have a right to live and love as they choice . who am i to say this can not be . what if someone said the way i live with my husband is right . or wrong and some day they stated it must not be . we are all living here why cant we just let everyone live the way they want to live and not try to rule them just because they are differnet then me ? I have been married for tity two years . I have seen many things come and go and then come again. each time i think well at least we are learning but am wondering how can there still be so many idoits that want to rule others . If i dont like what is on tv. i change the channel but others want to take the program off the air . live and let live . books should not be burned . just bcasue they dont agreee with me or you .
