The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism ....

The Presidential Socialist Candidate, Norman Thomas, said the following in his 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism," they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

NOTE: Norman  Matoon Thomas (born November 20, 1884 - died December 19, 1968)  was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America.

I have added this quote to many of my comments for months now......

“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism, but under the name Liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program until America will one day be a Socialist nation without knowing how it happened.”

I think this is so true.  It is going to happen...hell it IS happening...and no one will be the wiser.  Sad really, if you think about it.

If you put a frog into a pot of boiling water,  it will leap out right away to escape the danger.

But, if you put a frog in a kettle that is filled with water that is cool and pleasant, and then you gradually heat the kettle until it starts boiling,  the frog will not become aware of the threat until it is too late. The frog's survival instincts are geared towards detecting sudden changes.

This is a story that is used to illustrate how people might get themselves into terrible trouble. This parable is often used to illustrate how humans have to be careful to watch slowly changing trends in the environment, not just the sudden changes. Its a warning to keep us paying attention not just to obvious threats but to more slowly developing ones.
