Welfare spinoff

Before I start this, let me get something straight...the people who abuse the welfare system and go out and sell their foodstamps for crack rocks and what not I do not condone. The people who lie to get what they want from the government I do not condone.

However, There are people out there, like myself who honestly need the help. There are some people who have not had the same start in life as others. I'm not too proud to admit I've needed help in the past and I need help now. without my foodstamps I wouldnt be able to feed my daughter. And all these dumbasses who say "Oh I made sure I could take care of my kids before I had them" can shove it. Shit happens, people lose jobs and things they need. I think of it this way...quit your bitching that "why should I have to pay for someone elses kid" and blah blah blah...my parents pay taxes, have their WHOLE working life. I work, I pay into the system as well, so really my family and myself pay at least some back to what my daughter and I take. We also recieve medical through welfare but I'm not one of these moms who's like "Omg you scrapped your knee, lets go to the doctor!" We only go if we have a real reason to.

I'm sure there are about a billion cases out there like mine. Single mother, father pays NO support at all, scraping to get by, Is this anyone elses fault but mine? No. But that doesnt mean we and anyone else who is struggling dont deserve help to get on our feet

Some people can not help where they are or what has happened to get them there....not every one is lazy or feels they are entitled a free hand out...It is ashamed that some do abuse the system..

I agree with you.  Sometimes really bad things happen like your family falls apart leaving the wife (most times) who may be didn't get the education she needed to succeed in life expecting to be a sahm while her husband pays the bills leaves her for what ever reason or a working family who loose their well paying job and have lived in and payed for their house when they were making good money all of the sudden can't afford the bills and have to go through a forclosure, or what about people who have disabilities and can't make enough money to actually live a sustainable life.  People who judge OBVIOUSLY have not lived through these situations and have no clue as to what it is really like to have those things happen to them.  I don't care who you are, If you have not been in the shoes of another DON'T JUDGE, you may end up there some day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welfare fraud is a favorite piece of bull that *certain ppl* like to invoke, when railing against...whatever they are railing against.

Fact is, welfare fraud is not some kind of rampant thing going on.  The vast majority of folks receiving it qualify for it and *need* it.  And, there are plenty of folks who would qualify, if they applied, but do not do so for a variety of reasons - a main one being that they are not aware that they would qualify.

The real issue by the ppl who bring it up is not welfare fraud; it is the welfare system itself.  They invoke welfare fraud to cover for their coldhearted uncaring who-gives-a-shit attitudes about anybody in need.  And what better way than to blame the ones who are in need.  These are usually the "government is the debbil" ppl.  You know who they are.

You know, there is a real values inversion in this country. We talk alot about taking care of our own, but fail to do that in the way it would most help. And that is to ENCOURAGE those who need welfare- to go and get it- and to lay OFF the crapfest in their general direction.

I've about had it with all the going galters around here that seem to think the wealthy are the oppressed ones in this society.

i wouldn't even explain myself to these women, no matter what you do, how hard you work, they will find a way to make you feel bad for receiving govt. aid.  "why do you have a phone, internet, cable?"  "look at that woman and her three kids on welfare, how dare she put them in shoes on my dime?  oh, and look she has the nerve to be driving a car."  "i saw this lady leaving the welfare office, and she was wearing a shirt with sleeves.  ugh, i am so furious."

most people on welfare are working, paying into a systyem that is designed to help them should they need it.  i cannot stand people who think their whole check and tax dollars are supporting all the families on assistance, it isn't, not by a long shot.  it's not even enough to support one family.  anywho, i have no problem with some of my tax dollars going towards a family in need, a family like yours.

The self interest I've witness since joining this group leaves me gobsmacked at times.  What is so wrong with helping someone at a time in their life when they need it?

I would be interested if anyone has the percentage of taxes that goes to fund assistance in the US.  I'll bet it is a paltry amount compared to the military, the war in Iraq and funding other countries.  People don't seem to care so much about those things, but geesh, see someone on assistance and the claws seem to come out pretty quickly.
