How did you decide what schooling option to choose for your children?

What schooling option would you never choose and why?

I graduted from a very good Public school district (this is actuly the 4th one I had been attending ,ilitary life will do that to ya), I cannot afford private school (which here is a catholic school K-12)  and my kids dont quilfy for montisrroi(sp?) and I do not have the quilfactions ( I think) to homeschool. I have friends from all of the above and I went with what I know.  I dont think there is one that I would never do but I have never been in a postion to think about that either.

I actually did all 3 with my oldest boy. I homeschooled for his first 4 yrs of school. Sent him to private school for 2 yrs and Public school for 4yrs and now back to home schooling. The reason i choice homeschooling because I don't agree with many things that are taught in public school. I also don't like how they are run. My son was 4 grades a head of public school when he started. They where teaching him things in six grade that i taught him in 3rd. He got so bored he just stopped trying, went down fast. He is still tested above grade level but not doing well with homework and stuff. That is why we decided for him to be home schooled again.

With my youngest he will go straight to public school, because he is a very sociable guy and need the interaction from his peers to help him with his speech delay. If I see there is any issues I will remove him and homeschool if I need too. He can get his speech classes even if I home school.

As you can see there isn't a school that I won't do. I just look to see whats best for my child.

Agreed, thats what has happened to my 16 year old cousion he is so far ahead of every one he is bored out of his mind.  Thats why I like the "small country" school my kids attend the classes are "small enough" (kinder is 22 kids, and 1st is 20 kids, and so forth) that the teachers can teach on the many differnt levels that each student is at.

I am seriously thinking about home schooling my 3rd grader,,,,,we have the F-Cat here and it is required to go to the next grade so I have some reservations..Most teachers dont even agree with the F-Cat..... The school she goes to now is unbelievable..bullies,uncaring staff and teachers,,,not all of them but a lot..

Despite having every schooling option available to us under the sun, both of my girls attends or will be attending our local public schools. They've consistantly ranked very high in academics and the arts. My dd's middle school was name Middle School of the Year for all of New England. It's just a fantastic school system with excellent, creative leadership.

We are fortunate indeed.

Sadly, there aren't enough talented, creative and PASSIONATE educators out there to uplift every single school district. And even those who demonstrate those qualities are met with a system that is hostile to learning and those who try to facilitate it. Our national public school system is a disgrace and the fact that we haven't poured our hearts and souls into it and protested for its overhaul nearly as much as we have about taxation we don't even have yet makes me think that its our own damn fault.

Schools require community effort, input and most of all SUPPORT, because otherwise they are left to deal with the feds all alone. THAT'S the greatest disservice you can do for your children.

public is my choice. my choice for my tax dollars ( if I pay, might as well put it to use, and yes- I attend all school functions to keep it check!) the social factor for my kids is also why I choose public. the wide range of diversity my kids are exposed to, I feel makes them well informed of their surroundings.

I home school my oldest 2 girls (3rd grade and Kindergarten) because the school they would have to attend is a VERY bad school. There have been 2 pipe bombs on campus, a gun and a knife brought onto campus by a student, drive-by shootings pointed towards the students, and other violent acts at the school. Mind you this is an Elementary school... K-6th grade! I will NOT let my children be put in danger just to have them attend a public school.

We do homeschooling but it is through a Charter school and they take all of the state tests and meet with a credentialed teacher once a week.

As for some of you looking into homeschooling please try the K12.com website. We did this last year with my oldest, however it was not the right option for us.

My children have thus far attended public school- however, it seems that the standards for thier education keep dropping, the staff becomes less qualified or caring and the kids become more volatile every year, so homeschooling or alternative education of some kind has been a serious topic in our household. I was supposed to start homeschooling this year but got a job that prevented it that I couldn't pass on. But recently I have found myself quite disenchanted and frustrated with the public education system.

I personally went to public school and passionately hated it.  My children attended private schools most of their education until it became  necessary for them to attend public school which didn't make me happy. All 3 got their high school diplomas but with serious mental issues from it.  My grandchildren are now going to attend school and there has been some debate over it but the final decision rests with the parents. I would prefer private school but I never homeschooled but would willing to give it a try but I personally feel public schools should be banned.
