Hot Topic (9/20): Should smoking be allowed in your own homes if you have children?

Should there be a ban on smoking in homes occupied with children under a certain age or elderly? Insurance companies say 2nd hand smoke cause illnesses as much as smoking yourself. With Medical care skyrocketing and Insurance loopholes finding reasons not to pay...

Would you support a smoking ban in your own homes? Who should enforce the rule? The Government? ..... maybe through Child services? What are your thoughts?

My  thought I bought and paid for my home. The government keeps telling me where and when I can smoke but this is my home my daughter is healthy and I will not let them tell me what to do in my home unless they are going to give me back some of the money I paid in. My home My rules.

This will never happen. Like the govt can afford to even pay people to try and keep tabs on this type of thing. There are millions and millions of smokers.

I fully support a law that would make it illegal to smoke in homes with minor children.  I know it would be intrusive, but when you look at how harmful secondhand smoke is to a child, I don't know how anyone, in good conscience, could argue that it should be legal.  After all, we have laws that make it illegal to use lead paint or asbestos in our homes because they are harmful.  I don't see how a law banning secondhand smoke is much different.  And it's not like a child can just get up and leave if they don't like it the way an adult can.

So, according to your logic, parents should be allowed to beat their children, as  long as they do it in their own home?  Or to rape them?  The government does not, and should not, respect private property when children are being harmed.

My family changed their view on this just a little bit ago.  My folks always smoked around me in the house and car.  But now the doctors have found cancer, asthma, and severe allergies that are all related to second hand smoke.  My parents stopped smoking as soon as they found out.  They do not allow people to smoke around me or my children.  I am very allergic to cigerattes and have breathing problems now.  So yeah I think that it should be regulated because I have lived through the life of a child of a smoker.  It may be my father's house but this is my body and I have to live with it now.  I am the one who coughs and fears that blood will come up again.  I know my parents would take back all those years if they could.

Is your rocker still on both sides? How the hell do you get that out of what I say ? Did you read the topic or are you just in to drama? I stated That I will and can smoke in my home if I want to I payed for it. How you get the rest is beyond me .Sounds to me like your looking to start something or always turning peoples comments into something they aren't.Yes I said my home my rules but not in the context you put it in. Seems to me you need to get a hobby and quit twisting peoples words.

Personally, I don't need a law banning smoking in my house.  The occupants of my home have sense enough to step outside when they want to light up.
