WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is unlikely to close by the Obama administration's deadline of January 2010, two senior administration officials said late Friday.
U.S. military personnel walk a road at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in July.
They cited legal complications for the delay, but said they were still optimistic about shutting the detention facility for terrorism suspects soon.
The announcement represents a blow to the president, who signed an executive order and set the deadline with great fanfare during his first week in office.
During a signing ceremony at the White House on January 22, Obama reaffirmed his inauguration pledge that the United States does not have "to continue with a false choice between our safety and our ideals."

What do you think about the prison in Guantanamo Bay?
What should be done with the remaining 200+ prisoners?
What do you think about the prison in Guantanamo Bay?
I think that at one time it did have a major purpose but that it has been misused in the past years
What should be done with the remaining 200+ prisoners?
What is going on right now that there cases get re-looked at because not all of them that have been at Gitmo are actually "terrorist" some were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, some have been there for YEARS and they themsleves have no idea what they are being held for, if it is proven they do not have ties to any "terrorist" organization then let them go, if they do have links to an organization then put them in a maximum security prison, there is one here in my state that has NO PRISONERS in its sitting empty.
October is Spina Bifida awareness month, EVERYDAY 1 in 8 babies born in the United States has Spina Bifida.

First of all, Obama was niave to think that he could say, "We're closing Gitmo" and it would be done in a snap. He had NO plans whatsoever about where to put the current prisoners, how to try them, etc. NO PLANS!
Secondly, I don't think Gitmo should be closed. It was made for a reason and has a purpose. We should try the current prisoners sand sentence them... not send them on a vacation to Denmark...

Well, just ditto to all this.....
