These are the infamous Burka Barbies sold at a charity auction by Mattel. I've read several articles on them including one from my home town paper. I'm choosing not to post them though because they were all very misinformed and negative toward Muslim women in general.
Soooo what are your thoughts about Burka Barbie? I'm kinda undecided on the issue. On one hand YAY, they're recognizing Muslims. On the other hand the burka itself was very negative for a lot of women- that's a fact that can't be denied. Still,I think it's pretty cool.
And it raised money for children's charity. That's always good.
I had my 4 yr old granddaughter with me last week at Wal-mart and when we went down the Barbie isle she said " Nana, why are those dolls in their underwear? Can't their Nana buy them some clothes?" Out of the mouth of babes......

I kinda thought the same thing. I mean, Islam sees no color so they would need a hijab Barbie for like every race lol.

I just thought of something: Do they come in caucasian?
I like the middle one... There are other brands besides Barbie that are made specifically for Muslim girls, Fulla (I think that's her name) for example. I've seen one other but not as recently as that one so I can't remember what she was called. They are very cute & I kinda wish I could get them lol.
These first two are Fulla and the third is Arossa (one I hadn't heard of before). So therés at least 3 versions lol. I found these on http://www.muslimtoysanddolls.com. I really like this site for Arabic learning toys lol.

Quoting SAMNMAYASMOM:
No offense to any Muslims, but what's the point of having a barbie whose face is completely covered up? Yes, I'm sure it can be removed, but wth? The middle one is understandable. At least you can see her face!
When children play they mimic the world around them. If mommy wears a burka when she leaves the house, then Barbie should as well when she leaves the playhouse. I know that we made waterbeds for our dolls all of the time, and they never had pants if they were female. A lot of the styles of Barbie weren't allowed in our house because of her immoral look most of the time. So, anyway, we played house, dolls, and other such things as we knew it to be from watching adults around us.
