catholicmamamia is this week's Modest Mom of the Week. This is a time to ask her questions and get to know our fellow member!

This is her Getting to Know you answers:

Name.. Mia

Children.. Scott (11), Erin (6), Allie (3), Luke (9mo).. and we are open to life and as many blessings as God chooses to give us

Hobbies.. cleaning, organizing, playing with my children, visiting with friends, reading, relaxing with a cup of coffee, volunteering

Modesty background.. my mother's family is Pentecostal and that helped shape my preference for modesty, including long hair and long skirts

How do you define modesty?  Modesty, to me, means knowing that our bodies are a gift from God. This is a gift not to be used or abused for attention or commercialism. Our sexuality is a special gift for our husbands, alone. Our bodies were given the ability to conceive and carry our babies.. to nourish our babies with our milk after birth. Modesty is a way of life, and we should strive for purity of mind, heart, and body. I desire to be an example of gentleness and humbleness for my children.

EDIT: Children are now:  Scott (12), Erin (7), Allie (4), Luke (15mo)..

How long have you been catholic?

Is your name related to the soccor player?

What state did you grow up in?

Four kids?  Wow.  I'd like to think that I'm open to more as well, but right now I'm so overwhelmed.  Are you overwhelmed these days?

Hi Mia!  Wonderful ideals, in my humble opinion!  What things do you read?  Are you children in Catholic schools?  Nice to see another Modest Mommy on the planet!

Quoting Syra3.14159:

How long have you been catholic?
I converted to Roman Catholicism in 2004.. so over six years.

Is your name related to the soccer player?
Who? LOL. My SN comes from two nicknames, catholic mama and Mia.

What state did you grow up in?
Louisiana

Four kids?  Wow.  I'd like to think that I'm open to more as well, but right now I'm so overwhelmed.  Are you overwhelmed these days?
No, not at all! Some things that help.. we have a natural flow to our daily routine, clean as we go, do homeschool when the children's attention is focused and they are self-motivated, and patience and love are virtues my husband and I strive to model and teach our children.

Quoting RissaBusch:

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
Not a happy story, but.. attempting and committing suicide. It was an overdose of muscle relaxants, my heart and lungs completely stopped, I was clinically dead, and thankfully was brought back.

Where's the coolest place you've ever been?
Hm.. probably a La Leche League convention. Everywhere I looked there were moms, long skirts, babies, breastfeeding, babywearing, cloth diapering, and lots of hugs and smiles!

What's once place you would like to visit before you die?
If I could get there without flying.. Italy, Ireland, maybe England. I am acrophobic (fear of heights) and will probably never get on a plane.

What's your number 1 favorite baby carrier?  Dream carrier?
My favorite carrier.. I reach for my black fleece peanut shell most often! It is small, easily fits into any diaperbag, stretchy, easy to put on and adjust, holds my baby in a good position, fits well.. I could go on and on!

My dream carrier.. I don't really have one! I am universally appreciative of so many carriers.. each wear, fit, support, coordinate differently!

How long have you been on cafemom?
Since August 2007.. two years and eight months

Have you made any awesome friends on cafemom?
My best friends were made on CafeMom!

My best friend in the world was met on CafeMom. She lives in a neighboring city, we usually visit once a month. Often, she and her children will come stay a few days with us. When my birth father passed away in Feb'08, she came for a few weeks. Her name is Sarah (SN SarahNElijah). I am Catholic (sort of.. it's complicated!) and Sarah is Muslim. We are both attachment parenting, breastfeeding, babywearing, co-sleeping, no cry-it-out, nonvaxing, gentle discipline, covering, Modest Mommies!

Know the designer bamsmom2001 from Toadily Grand Slammin' Profiles? She's a bestie.. her family came for a visit and stayed overnight once!

And there are some others in a small group that I belong where we are *really* tight, we're having a CM MeetUp the end of this summer!

Pepsi or Coke you have to choose you can't say neither!?
It's true that I do not drink mainstream soda, only natural soda on occasion. But.. if it is a party and the mood strikes I will have a Coke!

Cats or Dogs?
What about this one.. can I answer "neither" for this question? LOL. We do not and will not have pets between our family having allergies, asthma, and germaphobic neat freak types!

I will say this.. we are terribly afraid of dogs/dogbites!

What are your thoughts on the current Pope?  So you miss John Paul 2?
Benedict XVI seems promising, he is supposed to be 'old school' which I liked. Sadly, there were things I was hoping he would speak out on / change that have not.. like cracking down on immodesty in church, having Bishops enforce the guidelines of not 'adding to the Mass' and warning against the trend of bringing rock music (albeit christian rock) into the traditional Mass, bringing back requirements for headcovering, etc.

Definitely DO miss PJP2. I have read most of his encyclicals and books.. did you know JP spoke out about the importance of breastfeeding, moms being sahms, families staying together? He was all about old fashioned family values.. loved it!

I always thought John Paul II looked really huggable. I wanted to give him a hug. Did you ever want to hug Pope John Paul II? What about Pope Benedict? Would you hug him?

Rissa.. I love you, especially for this question. YES.. I have always wanted to hug Pope John Paul II! Never felt the urge to hug Benedict XVI, though I would if I met him and he allowed me.. LOL. Our former Archbishop (recently retired) had the same effect on me as PJP2, this man was the true embodiment of God/Allah.. I took one look in his eyes and it was like I was mesmerized, looking into Elysium. He was so.. humble, and HOLY. He took my hand, and I felt this *energy*.. KWIM?

Oh another question, have you ever heard of or watched Father  John corapi?  My mom an I used to watch him on EWTN, he was pretty cool.  I went to Catholic college by the way and my husband is "Catholic."

Quoting MamaKalila: You said your mom's family is Pentecostal..

Mom's family is Pentecostal.. I was not raised Catholic, or anything..
and I did convert to Catholicism later, of my own choosing.

My mom's side of our family were Pentecostal.. this would be my greatgrandmother, and my uncles, aunts, and cousins, the majority of my large family.
My father (stepdad, later adopted by him) was nonreligious. He was a liberal hippie (though did not dress like one) who believed in God but did not believe in organized religioun.

My mother was a practicing christian when I was a young child. She was shunned by her church friends when she divorced my bio dad, so she quit attending church. She has always been a christian/protestant, but only resumed church attendance a couple of years ago. She was out of church for around twenty years.

Mom and Stepdad did not raise me as anything. When mom quit taking us to church I arranged for the church bus to pick my brothers and I up and when old enough, I began driving to church. The conflict.. though taking myself to the same church (baptist) for my childhood, I began questioning/doubting my beliefs in my teen years and became a practicing pagan and later, atheist. Yes, all while attending church every sunday.

Wish I had more questions.. I'll try to think of more later lol.

Okay, sounds good!  :o)
