Hello, ladies! I hope all is well. I've been covering my hair for the past couple of months now and I love it! However I'm the only woman around here who actually does, so it's a little unusual to most people. I was using head scarves, tichels, and turbans. However recently, I got a couple of hijab under caps (well, one cap and one headband) and got a long rectangle scarf and have been pinning it around my head. This is my favorite way to cover now since I don't have to worry about my hair falling out-plus, it looks so pretty to me! lol Anyway, I've got a couple of questions: One thing I'm wondering is that when I cover with my scarf wrapped around (it looks like a hijab), will the schools say anything to me? My son is going to start public school in about a month and I'll always be covered when I go and I'm not Muslim, so will they tell me to take it off or wear something different since I'm Catholic? One more question as well is: I'll have to renew my driver's license in November. When I got my last one, I wasn't covering. Will I have to take off my cover to take my picture? Has anyone had any problems? Can they make me take the covering off for my picture? I'd really rather not-I'd feel naked and immodest without it! Any and all replies will be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch for reading!

Well you can tell them you wear it for religious reasons and they won't ask you to take it off. I am not sure if the school will ask.I visited my daughter school in hijab.I am muslim and they were very welcoming to it.
To be honest, they cannot (in either situation) tell you to remove your covering. They (the liscense people) might ask if you will always be wearing a covering, but that is all they can do.
Sorry it took me a while to check on this, ladies! Thanks to everyone who replied! Your answers have definitely put my mind at rest!
Hello! I don't get on cafemom much so please don't mind me. I read your post and was curious to know why you cover your head if you are not muslim? I found that so interesting! I was like wow, this Catholic sister is wearing a scarf! I mean again, please it's just curiosity. I understand that nuns cover a certain way and so forth, but I was just wondering. And girl you put a smile on my face! I was born Muslim and in the U.S., and took me forever to have the courage to cover just because I was insecure about being misjudged but eventually realized this is what I am supposed to do as a Muslim and is what I really wanted to always do! So thanks for putting a smile on my face!
LOL Jadamay, thanks so much for making my day! That's really nice of you to say!
I started getting interested in wearing head coverings here in this group, as a matter of fact. And this is where I found out that all kinds of women cover their heads-Jewish women, Catholic women, Muslim women, Orthodox women (Jewish and Christian), women who identified as pagan, or even those who don't identify with any specific religion or set of beliefs. That was very fascinating to me! So, I started digging around, going on youtube and I'd even asked in here if any women other than Muslims covered their head in a hijab and what other Muslim women would think about it. I've always gotten very positive answers about it when I've asked (and I've done a lot of research as well). Also, on youtube, they have other women, like the Non-Muslim hijabi and the Veiled Catholic who also cover their head in this way. I'd always thought the hijab was very beautiful. I'd always envied Muslim women when I'd see them in the city-they looked so comfortable with themselves and didn't have to worry about how their body or hair looked. Once I got all this information, surfed a lot of chat rooms and whatnot, watched a lot of youtube, I talked to my husband. He supported me and I got a headscarf. This was a short one and I'd always thought I'd save the hijab for when I moved to the bigger city. However, I saw a how-to video on youtube about how to pin a long rectangle scarf as a hijab (with one side hanging) and I tried it over my undercap. I loved it-especially as my hair is growing and is starting to come out of the scarves that I tie back. So, I do wear it occasionally-still not all the time, but I'm getting there!
Sorry this came out so long! LOL I hope you understand. I knew that wearing it like this would cause looks in public and questions either in public or online. So, I knew I'd need to explain and I really don't mind at all. I'm always happy to answer any questions!

Well said. My Mennonite friends don't have any trouble with this either. It is part of you and your beliefs. They won't ask you to remove your watch or shoes...etc, same thing.
I think head coverings are lovely as well. I love the laced ones and the veils. You go, girl!
I'm coming in late too and you made me smile as well... as another Catholic who loves hijab. I don't wear it as much anymore because of where I live (loooong story) but is still one of my fav ways to cover and part of me feels called to cover full time but... I don't know, I guess I'm still fighting it or something. I have started covering at Mass though and that was harder for me to do than in public lol.
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this, ladies. Thanks so much, Ruthmom and MamaKalila. You are making me smile now!
Well sence traditionally catholic women are to cover their hair or pin it up in mixed company you are ok with the covering. and if the school asks tell them you are a devout catholic woman that covers. as for the liscense they cannot ask you to take it off if you tell them its for religious reasons. it is because ALL women that follow th eone God are to cove rand remain modest in the company of non relative males!!
